Mossberg 20 gauge Hushpower

I'm in two minds of getting a Mossberg 20-gauge Hushpower to take with me when I feed to trim up a bit of vermin.
If I'm honest I've never even handled one, but I'm quite adaptable with most things.
I was wondering how significant the noise reduction was compared to something without the Hushpower... there are a couple local to me on Guntrader that have very little use before they are being passed along, it makes me think they are like the curate's egg...
Any thoughts and advice would be appreciated to give me something to mull over.

Happy New Year to you all.

The 20g is the best compromise - better than the 12 for handiness. It’s a significant noise reduction so good around livestock but still a bang even with sub sonics. I gave mine up because I don‘t have a need, but I’d have another one.

The 410 hushpower is the only one which handles without compromise with the moderator (have picked up but never fired). I think it can manage more than 25 yards but the spread is smaller so you need to be a good shot. As a disclosure - I don't even own a hushpower but do have an atec moderator and a 24 inch barrel (special order)

Had the hushpower pump 410 brilliant bit of kit very quiet I sold it stupidly but now have the hushpower over and under 20g I do like it but quite loud I think it's all down to cartridges I think I haven't found the right one yet

Try one because the pump especially is very mussel heavy . Your not gaining much at the ranges subsonic ammo can be used at . Remember Subs are no more than 1050 fps and with a light load of number 6 lead that's not a lot of wallop!

Thanks for all the advice it's much appreciated, thanks also Ben for the link to a previous thread.
I think I'll go and have a look at one before I commit, the local gunshop has one in stock.
The idea was for squirrels & rats around the feeders, maybe some wing shooting as well.

What utter nonsense. Pumps are mussel heavy 😂.
It's not a pump up air gun. Your muscles will be fine.
I've not owned the Mossberg hushpowers but have owned single barreled ones. I prefer their handling.
I currently own a 12g Pedretti and it's brilliant.
I shoot rats, pigeons, crows and foxes with it and with any 70mm cartridge.

There is still noise but massively reduced. Even sub sonic cartridges make noise. I made some only last week for rats.
The noise they do make seems to startle nothing. More of a whoosh than bang.

Get a 410 , totally the perfect gun for what you describe ! Pattern your shells up to 35 yards and most of the time despite what some say the pattern is not humane after 35 yards . I shoot the 410 a fair bit! When you talk about rats around the feeders - they can be not a lot of heft to carry and with factory loads going right down to 14 gram maybe 11 gram? Perfect for rats around feeders ( very very easy and cheap to re-load ) RTO tool , felt wad, Hogdens Lil'gun powder etc . With the correct paperwork, choke you can get into cast slugs at subsonic speeds lot of quiet wallop for fox etc

What cartridges are people finding the best in 20g I was told the subs are gutless but not tried them myself
