MSA Sordin Question

Looking for some advice from those in the know.

Just treated myself to a pair of Pro-x as I am going very deaf at 32....

Head phones are making a squeaking/whistling sound when you take them off and the volume is high (enhanced background noise) - is this normal/should I send them back?

Tah in advance for the advice.

I used to get that when I had my in-ear plugs to close together... are you closing the cups when they are turned on? I generally turn off my sordins before they come off my head so haven't had this happen. (to ensure I don't kill the battery).

Yes mine do this. If you put the ears together - it stops. You could see it as a design bug - but it is more of a feature to tell you to switch the bloody things off

By the way - the MSA Sordin's are one of the best shooting investments i've made. So comfortable, low profile (don't get in your way when shooting), you are 100% aware of your surroundings, and no more ringing ears after a day shooting.

Glad it is a design feature ;-)

Going to try them out this weekend in the woods.

It’s called feedback. When they’re on your ears it won’t happen. Occurs when the output of the amplifier is fed back in to the input, amplified, fed back in, amplified and round and round.

As above its normal mine do it as well. Good tip @sh1kar thanks for that just turned the cups inside out on mine, I’ve had them for years and that never occurred to me

It’s just feedback as Long Range Rob says, switch them off and it will stop. Make sure you buy the gel cups to go with your ear defenders, extremely comfortable.

Indeed - make sure you have the gel pads, but I think most models do now.

Also don't fret that you paid £200+ for a set of ear defenders. You only get one set of eardrums in life, and £200 is about 10% the cost of good quality hearing aids.

Thanks for all the replies everyone!

Tried them out this weekend, with gel seals as advise, was very pleased (almost improves your hearing).

Only downside - I hear how much noise I am making :-(

Resurrecting the thread with another question - headphones are turning themselves off if you touch the metal battery cover? This cannot be normal?

Normal, as long as the noise stops when you put them on. Mine do it.
I don't think this is normal. The way I read it, the power is going off if he touches the battery cover. The only thing which i'm aware of which switches these off is either being on for 4 hours continuously - or pressing the power button.

Mine just has a small metal screw top that you unscrew and put the batteries in one at a time, it’s a pretty tight fit. Never had the switching off problem. Your right, It sounds like there is something wrong with them. Sorry about that, I hadn’t seen that post.
