My Spirits Lifted.

No I don’t mean that someone’s legged it with the Brandy.

Last Sunday was the beginning of the last three days of “bird song”, Thrushes missing for weeks have reappeared and have begun their tuneful comeback, singing early mornings and evenings, what a wonderful reminder of Spring to come.

The whole countryside around here filled with beautiful songs of our resident bird species, it does lift my spirits.

Yep, notice much more birdsong up here and very pleasant it is too. Apart from the Thrush that has taken to landing on the windowsill at 06.30!
Bullfinches seem to be pairing up and the woodpeckers are sorting their territory out, it may be wet and miserable, but spring is going to be along soon enough!

Five bird boxes up and seeing more passing traffic from flocks of starlings and sparrows, lots of robins and blackbirds feeding on mealworms we put down, great dawn chorus until the crooks join in, buts it’s like the sound of seagulls - evocative in its own way. Airfyn ready for magpies though…

Funny old world innit? We feed the garden birds all year round and have been blessed to have some pretty unusual visitors over the years but our greatest pleasure is being able to whistle in six blackbirds every morning for their raisin breakfasts. Then yesterday morning two thrushes arrived - haven’t seen any in years, utterly delighted by their presence!
Sadly hearing the dawn chorus is outside the range of my geriatric gunfire-damaged ears….

We tend to feed the local population of our feathered friends, some times it’s like the proverbial ‘feeding of the five thousand’ that is until this one turns up…..Musket l think.

Our Blackbirds stand on the wall end and sing for their apple.

I have a pair of blue tits in the garden and checking out the sparrow hotel. I have watched them hunting in the climbers so put some peanuts out for them. Anything to help them through this dreadful weather. Great tit's again found the feeder.
Pigeons have been building for weeks.

We counted over 50 Siskins on and around our feeders a couple of days ago. There's a flock that comes in two or three times a day.
There have been a couple of Redpolls as well......great to see.
Our bat-box has been regularly used by both blue and great tits since we put it up.
Bats are often seen, but probably don't like the decor...
