i use a browning crushable type , had no water ingress as yet or big wax jobbie . hate water down my neck so hate flat caps in bad weather .

I always wear a hat that will soak up a certain amount of rain as you don't get it running down your neck as I cant stand that either and most waterproof ones mean the rain runs off. Doesn't take an hour to dry after either especially if the wood burner is on!!

Wax cotton Tilly for me as I don't like hoods or water running off my hat down my neck. dries in no time as it doesn't absorb much and the two "straps" work well in the wind.

I have had a Tilly hat for decades, first one wore out and was replaced under their lifetime guarantee, they returned it to me along with a brand new replacement. Indispensible, were tatty one shooting posh one when walking/holiday. Would never buy any other make of hat.

hatsdirect.com. Blue Mountains Akubra. £75. :( mine was £40 ish ten years ago...

Brilliant for for rain or shine, very comfortable, your own little micro climate. No rain on the face and none down the neck. Helps keep branches away when going through thickets. If in a high seat your profile/silhouette hardly changes when you turn your head!

Definitely need the chin strap in blustery weather!

And you call that a hat???

Oi! My taste in hats is being grossly misrepresented here! Though I would cut a bit of a dash in the beating line! :)

This is what mine looked like when it was new...Akubra Blue Mountain.png

Who would need a rifle when you could punch the deer á la Mongo!

P.S. Sorry for the garbled response K. I did not pick up your Crocodile Dundee quote. It went right over my head....
