New Ford Ranger

John Gryphon sais - " The new Ford Ranger (2022–2025 models) in Australia has faced significant recalls and reported issues, particularly with the 3.0L V6 diesel engine. Major concerns include camshaft defects, engine shutdowns, transmission failures, and turbocharger issues, with some reports of catastrophic engine failure. Common issues also include electrical glitches and turbo piping failures". - UQ.

Yet every second tradie has one and they keep going back for a new one every few years. In the shopping centres during the week Rangers seem to out number all other brands.

That doesnt mean that they are happy.

I am fed up with paying to fix my 2012 L322 Range Rover - that never missed a beat until 18m ago - but now is constantly going wrong and costs a ridiculous 2400 Irish road tax a year. For better or worse I'm going to get a PHEV Ranger nearly new with 330 Euro tax and heavily discounted because of the UK tax change, plan to run it into the ground as my last big practical wagon, but also ok for airport runs and taking wife out. in 15 years I'l. be lucky if Im standing let alone wanting to put dogs and deer in the back of a truck!

I know four owners of various Rangers, two drive the base level Wildtrak, one has a 3.2 and one a 2024 Raptor with extras
The two fellas with the basic versions hate them apart from them being tax-exempt for business, mostly due to service costs and seemingly never-ending niggles
The 3.2 owner absolutely loves his truck and he works it hard, he's a commercial fisherman and he more like abuses that poor thing. But he drives all over the south west, heavily loaded without trouble and in remarkable comfort. I've travelled with him from Bristol to Plymouth via Minehead, Ilfracombe & Padstow and it was as comfortable as my old D4 was
The Raptor owner drives his from London back to his family's place in Estonia a couple of times per year (yes, he is rich) , takes it to off road courses and uses it for work too - all without so much as minor hiccup

I'm thinking of swapping back to a pick up again, and one of the bigger Rangers is probably what I would go for as I've rarely heard much good about those with the smaller, wet-belt engines
I was thinking of a return to a Hilux, but their reputation is a pale shadow of what it used to be
As I live in West London I would have to drive something new/newish to avoid ULEZ charges - my old Hilux was costing me at least £25 per working day due to Komrade Khan's "green" tax scam, I don't want to play that game again

Every car manufacturers have an equal share of haters and lovers and a bigger element that say nothing and are content with whatever they drive. I have a old 2016 3.2 ranger and yes its had its problems but its done over 175,000 miles and still goes well. I keep thinking I should update it but at the moment it does the job im asking it to do as a work vehicle and several visits to Scotland from here in Oxfordshire each year so at the moment im going with better devil you know until im convinced otherwise. I do like the new defender hard tops though.

Sounds like a PHEV Ranger then!
