Hi everyone, My name is Sean. just joined here as a member after finding a lot of answers i was looking for on google regards my FAC application and see its a great place for information.
I have had a big interest in hunting and Deer management for years and get out stalking with friends whenever i get a chance. only applying for my own FAC now as work has always been in the way of me having the time do justify getting a rifle. If anyone has any extra advice on my FAC application id appreciate it. currently applying for a .270 and a .17 but unsure which variation to go for. I am also hoping to find a syndicate to join after i do my DSC1 when they are up and running again.

Regards,
Sean

Welcome to the forum.

Not sure if Police Scotland are processing new FAC applications at the moment so I expect there will be quite a backlog once things start to get back to normal.

I would get in touch with John of Moray Outfitting to start planning for your DSC1, did mine with him.

Have you put your FAC application through yet? I would seriously reconsider regarding the .17 and opt for a .22 rimfire instead, ammo much cheaper and if you are using them for vermin control and most of the ammunition is subsonic, which is helpful.

.270 Winchester is the king of the Highlands for good reason, make sure you get a moderator slot put on for all rifles.

Great members on here, the forum is a very useful resource.

Cheers.

Cheers for the info.

I have spoken to one of the local officers who deals with applications and he said they aren't processing them due to not being able to do home visits, but he recommended getting it in asap because there will be a backlog when this is over.

I haven't put it in yet so ill take your advice and change for .22 rimfire and ill be sure to put moderators on the application too, i know the 270 is like a canon without it.

Ill check out Moray outfitting too.

Cheers.

No worries, another thing to do would be look into getting a gunsafe. Even if you can't get one at the moment, keep an eye out for one locally.

I would strongly recommend getting one with an internal compartment for ammunition and bolts if possible, if not you will have to get another, separate safe.

I would talk to your local officer with regards to ammunition as well. If you are quite far from a gunshop or work in the industry they usually allow a larger amount.

I had to buy one new from @R. Macleod & Son on here, good folks to deal with although maybe a bit far for you.

Cheers i was actually just looking into safes and did wonder how it worked with ammo with internal compartments in the safe. I found a few on ebay that look good.

We have a small gun dealers here but prices are extortionate so i know my friend buys online, but ill have a look into it.

I can imagine it will be near the end of the year before my licence is processed so I have plenty of time to look around for deals.

Be careful with safes, they need to be of a certain approved standard.

I'm sure your friend can advise, they need to be fitted properly as well.
