New member introduction

Hi there fellow meat of the woods harvesters, I'm from the kent/surrey border next to biggin hill , have some permissions on a friends land and a farmers land for pest control with my .22 springer break barrel air rifle with scope, and harvest rabbits, pheasants and the occasional wood pigeon, which i process myself and make meals out of, and always see deer too, and really wanted to learn the art of deer stalking and become legally aloud to hunt them and be able to aquire a rifle and licence to do so.. but I am quite the simple man with not alot of money, and the deer stalking clubs seem very expensive for me to be able to train and gain the right skills and qualifications to aquire such hunting rifle and licence, and was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction or guide me how to do so without needing to spend the 300 to 500 each stalking club training session to aquire such rifle and licence and skills to be able to hunt deer.. I do hope to gain lots of info out of this forum and learn a wealth of knowledge and make the right contacts, and hopefully also be guided to my path to putting dear meat on the table for dinner! I hear it's the best type of steak you ever will eat?? Someone make that a reality for me please! Have a lovely day!

Welcome!
You don’t need to spend a lot to get into stalking.
If you're on a tight budget, you could get yourself fully kitted out with rifle, scope, bipod, sticks, knife, binos, clothes and boots for under £500
And if there's deer already on the ground where you shoot then you don’t even need to pay for stalking.
The only additional expense I would recommend is DSC1.

Ah ok thanks for that information vss! So is it hard to get a dsc1? What is it and how do I go about getting it please?

Deer Stalking Certificate Level 1.
It's all the basic knowledge of deer biology, ecology, welfare, legislation, management and so on, combined into a three day course with written exams and a shooting test at the end.
It is NOT a substitute for years of experience in the field, but even experienced stalkers doing DSC1 are surprised about how much new stuff they pick up.
It is NOT compulsory either, but it's a good starting point and shows commitment.

There are several course providers, all answerable to the same verification by DMQ, but I would suggest contacting BDS (British Deer Society) for availability.
