Well, Ive decided to go down to two rifles. An everyday rifle and one for Sunday best. Im going to use my tikka 7mm08 for stalking and have a 6mm for walking round the fields foxing and longer range target/plinking.
So far Ive got:

BAT VR, Lilja 1:8 6x47 chambered my Steve Bowers
Wilson custom dies.
A Jewel sat on my kitchen table waiting to be put on it.
TET DBM which either my mate is going to use or Im going to put it on this rifle.

Im like a dog with two tails :D :D and looking forward to get the bits together as and when I can afford them. The first thing Im going to have to do is look at the barrel contour as atm it is too heavy. Im looking at making a carry-able rifle for foxing but that is still stiff enough for some longer range target work.

One thing though, Ive always used optilocks.
What are good picatinny mounts? I like a low scope and its a 50obj Ill be putting on it.

Very nice choice Dan. I would seriously look at some talley mounts. A large picatinny rail and rings might look out of place on a svelt sporting rifle.

go for the same size profile as the sako fluted varmint. they carry abit of weight. but nowhere nr as heavy as the barrel on my rpa

I like the Remington Senderro Profile. I have one on my 30-06, not too heavy to carry but plenty stiff for precision work.

Yorkie.

BK,
Give the Lads at Third Eye a Call. They are very helpfull and will sort you out with what you need. A lot depends on Barrel profile too.

Yorkie.

We have a few custom rifles coming through our workshop. Some of the owners sell their rifles on again after a short time, reason is just about always that they chose a too heavy barrel. I am sure that a super magnum profile such as the LW 1450 will be accurate out to well past 800m but not weigh as much as a varmint.

Cheers Edi, Im thinking either the 1450 or the 1400 but need to get my hands on a couple and see what theyre like. Trouble is its 1.350 in the "swamp" (if that's what its called).

Anyone use the picatinny optilock bases? I really dont want to mark my scope so was thinking of getting the picatinny optilocks so I can use the rings with liners.
Theyre not cheap and do they make the scope higher or lower than the same rings on normal bases
