Hi everyone, I’m new to using forums, and a complete novice with deer stalking. but hopefully looking to meet some people with experience who can point me In the rite direction. Any advice will be gratefully appreciated.

I’m 34, been into field sports last 20 years or so, mainly ferreting, pidgeon shooting I do have my shotgun cert, but I’m wanting to trying stalking as I’ve never been.

I’ve read a few horror stories in the internet with regarding syndicate places and people so on. If any one can help me and give me some info on a reliable person to go on a paid stalk with It would really help me as I’m struggling to find someone. I’m from West Yorkshire but I don’t mind travelling.

Thanks you

Welcome!
Advice from a foreigner: get in touch with the BASC and attend their courses. You will learn a lot, and not only about the technicalities of stalking.

Welcome from Essex also, have a look in the opportunities section on here, hopefully you can find someone local and moreso trustworthy on here

^Absolutely this. Also, do your DSC-1 as quick as you can, and try to make friends with course-mates. They may become stalking partners or have tips for stalking. Heyup from Berks.

Some forum advice if you are new such as I.

Don't post anything anywhere else until your probation is finished.

I've had 2 warnings in the first week through novice mistakes.

Its true there are plenty rouges and " syndicates " can be among the worst of them . The more they are advertised the least attention they are worth in my experience. Far better to book days and with various guides , some are great some terrible ! Best move though if you dont see deer or lots of sign dont re-book , showing you deer on ground that " we are not doing today " generally means its not theirs to take you on ".
Showing you deer on land your stalking and not getting a shot at any is just all part of stalking though , it would be dull indeed if every stalk was successful, lets face it its called "staking " not "killing" for a reason right ?
Not too far away from me

I absolutely agree with you on this. When I started 20 years ago with it seemed to a lot closer tite knit didn’t really to see many lads about, maybe it’s due to lack of social media etc I don’t know. But these days everyone seems to be trying to make a killing from.

I appreciate all the advice gents I’m going to look at trying to get booked on a few stalks, increase my knowledge of stalking then get booked on my dsc1.
