Hi all

New to this forum and as per the T&C's here's my quick hello!

My name is Ross & I've been a keen 'shot' since I was able to walk...so that's about 47 years! 95% of the time shooting was via my own shotguns & plunking on friends / family farms with airguns and the odd bit of 22rimfire rabbiting.

In terms of stalking I've had many outings with friends & family for deer (Roe and Red) and enjoyed lots of venison along the way. I never however saw the need to get a FA licence as I had a great network of friends and family who had rifles and land and were happy to take me out.

That being said, I now have private access to circa 500 acres of mixed hill grazing and woodland that backs onto circa 40 square miles of hill land heather around the Loch Lomond area...it's got lots of Roe and I believe the odd Red (which I've not seen yet) so I recently procured my firearms licence and have just bought a lightly used Tikka T3 lite .243 along with a S&B 8x56 scope. It's now zero'd in and I'm off running!

For the record, I found the whole firearms application process with Strathclyde Police very smooth and easy. Bear in mind I'm coming along with 40 odd years of Shotgun shooting so I knew what was expected. Very happy with the whole process.

A general thanks also to all you who have contributed to all the various threads I've read over the last 6 months as I've researched the best way forward.

Happy hunting and I'll contribute my 10 pence worth in when appropriate.
