Night vision for rats

Hi Guys,
I am looking to get the .22 set up for rats. Can't afford thermal. Need something accurate/effective and fairly cheap. Interested in the yukons. Probably second hand one. Don't need to record it to my phone or any of that nonsense. Any recommendations? Alternatives second hand for £300 mark.

Push the boat out and get the warden adder, I bought it for foxes on the vartarg but on the HMR or .22 it would be awesome for rats. And at rat ranges the built in IR would be more than enough, it’s pretty good for foxes tbh... it’s such a neat little unit compared to others..

Photon XT (older versions) are fine, no worries at all at ratting ranges, the onboard IR on either the 4.5 or the 6.5 are adequate, even out to bunny range. Be aware however that they take a little bit of "learning" to get the best out of them. They both have limited depth of field under IR, but if you add a boat tail coaster as a rapid "focus follower" onto the front ring, you soon get into the swing. My lad uses the 4.6 on his air rifle to devastating effect, and I've got the 6.5 on a rimfire for ratting and bunnies. You should be able to find one used in budget.

Save a few pounds and buy the addonnight from customscopes or ludicrouslumens

Given you want it for ratting on a .22 and given your budget I'd also recommend the Photon XT, you should be able to pick up a good one second hand for less than your budget. It will also go out far enough for rabbits.

I have a full add on unit for sale in the classifieds for £650.
Its the ludicres Lunens add on with the correct scope.

Contact some bloke on NV forum for one of his kwik fit add on rigs , absolutely greatbits of kit for just under £300

I have a Photon 4.5 on my Daystate PCP with a Clive Ward illuminator, great on Rats & Rabbits.

Yukon XT was a game changer for me when on the farm ratting. Knocking the centre out of the front cap and leaving the cap closed increase the depth of focus quite a lot at ratting ranges although you will still need to keep adjusting the focus especially if you're shooting at relatively close range (less than 15 yards). Personally I don't use the on-board IR as it reduces battery time significantly.

I use a Digital Night Stalker add on and IR T67 on an MTC Connect scope for ratting and image quality and field of view are great. The unit does make the rifle feel quite unwieldy though, and the screen lights the shooter’s face.

Depending on the scope you already have, you could be up and running for under £200 and DNS service and support are fantastic.
My buddy uses a Photon 6.5 and it has a narrow FOV but the lower mag version should be more suitable.
