Oh Dear...Firearms officer stored surrendered guns at home

I have dealt with many dozens of FEOs as a cert holder for 40+years, RFD for nearly 30yrs, and club secretary and all bar one have been very professional, that one was removed from the FEO/police position after an enquiry.

Very rarely, one might misunderstand the law or rules but after a discussion and some investigation it's all been sorted.

Misunderstanding the convoluted rules and laws is not them intentionally misleading or being dishonest, I hope that is what you experienced.

If it was true dishonesty I hope it was reported, I'm sure it would have been addressed.
But there in lies the problem the home office guidelines are very clear FEOs and FLMs choose to interpret them as they wish which is wrong , for example where in guidelines does it mention dsc being required for fac ? Yet how many do we hear of insisting upon it ? Clear indifference to guidelines to my mind that’s dishonest

wow. just utter WTF. How can anyone trust the system? Gun owner or not?
imagine if he had the balls to sell them…..

The oft' FEO fixation with chamberings should not be of any real surprise as 'figures' are tangible, whereas the real challenge and task of determining the suitability or otherwise of an Applicant to own a firearm requires a wholey different mindset that will not - IMHO - be found in a helpful and comforting formula.

if you believe that you must be mental
mmm, let me think....if I was mental I wonder why I have had a firearms certificate for over 50 years, just sying!!
Can I ask how many have you actually met?
let he without sin cast the first stone!!!. I have met lots of FEO's they have been helpful professional and courteous through out my interactions, many have been serving Police Officers, now carrying out duties as a FEO, question: why should they not be all of the aforesaid??

Does it really matter. If he is saving valuable/ interesting firearms from destruction then good on him.
Firearms and shotguns are controlled for a reason and the law applies to everyone. Keeping un registered shotguns and Firearms along with not carrying out checks on friends who were applying for certs make a mockery of the whole process. He needs to be dealt with firmly.
Unfortunately there are bad apples in every walk of life, it can't be assumed that they are good people just because of the job they do. Some bad ones slip through the net.
The FEOs that I have dealt with have always been thorough, reasonable and helpful.
