Old skull smell

Howrya Lads, recently cleaned up a old red stag skull that had been left outside for yonks. Boiled him up with degreaser mixed with bit of fairy liquid a couple of times with the usual powerwashing inbetween. So he's pretty clean now as in no meat left on him just bone. Everything internally gone too. No brain matter left. But there's still a really heavy stink off the skull, any recommendations to remove this before I want to peroxide him and mount.
Any help appreciated

Leave the skull in diluted bleach for a few days.

Should sort the smell and whiten it at the same time.

You will probably find once it is properly dry the smell lessens significantly. Personally hate the smell of rotted skulls and would always boil from fresh, I would dry it with a good airlflow such as over a portable radiator or room fan etc in the garage where the smell won’t cause an issue. Peroxide defo not bleach.

Maybe try dishwasher tabs - I have heard these work but must say I have not tried it yet.

As for the bleach - most people peroxide skulls anyway so I would think it would be that bad as long as it’s not in there for an extended period?

I once left a roe head way longer than I should’ve before boiling and it was stinking but it turned out it was the antlers that the smell was on so maybe try giving them a scrub.

Regards,
Gixer
