Old SxSs

Well spotted! So you’re right on it being later

So you can get 1 1/8oz 2 3/4” guns? I assumed they were all 2 1/2”. Sadly this is still an extractor gun
In general shotguns have a maximum load. 11/8oz is 30 grams. A 30 gram load of English No6 is a pretty classic load in a SxS. Anything over 32 grams starts getting punchy on a busy day. Under and overs ( inventions of the Devil) can absorb heavier loads by virtue of their heavier weight.
I had a quick gander at my Webley&Scott, built towards the end of production with a serial number of 1435##. Although it states 23/4” there’s no mention of maximum load although W&S recommended no more than 32grams.

Picked my BSA up yesterday, not pristine but good honest condition. It does indeed lock up tight, everything works nicely and it is actually ejector! Have fired it to help work out the chokes - 1/2 and full I reckon. Anyway my itch is partly scratched now. Serial is 40599 if that’s of any interest to you @HistoricBore
I might give it a minor tidy up, nothing major. Won’t worry about re-bluing but would like to tidy the checkering up. Would it have originally had flat topped or has it just been sanded down at some point?
