Optilock - Sako 85S

**grumbles** this is sooo annoying…

I have got myself some optilock standard bases for an 85 (xs-sm) and low mounts for the scope, but the scope doesn’t clear the bases at the rear. Also the scope is too far forwards.

What’s the solution?
Bases that fit the longer action or a higher (medium?) ring or both??

Nightmare, I had to file a little of the waste metal off my base to allow the 8x56 sit low on my 85M. They are not the best design really.

I’d go for the long bases. Should be able to move the scope a fair way back before the objective end hits the barrel or the rings

Your object end mount should be flush with the inside of the aperture, but it looks like you rings are too low. See the attached.IMG_1711.webpIMG_1717.webp

The lower the rings the better, due to affording cheek contact. The long bases would be good for moving the ocular bell rearwards to avoid the fouling on the zoom ring. The rear have the front base mounting arrangement reversed and so will not foul the bell.

Would it help if the rear edge for the forward mount were flush with the edge of the opening in the receiver (like in The Prowler's photo)? I'd probably start my making that move as that is (or at least, used to be) the 'correct' position for an Optilock base.
Is that doesn't solve the problem, then changing the forward base for the long-action version (as in Sako6.5x55's illustration) should fix it.
