Out last night.

Dog fox for me tonight
Watched him for half hour working a neighbours field - into ours where he chased a hare - thought it was comin g my way but no - took it into the wood - anyway 5 mins later back out the wood and all over

Did a canny dance 🕺

Another pair at the buffet last night. Shot the first but second one bolted for the hedge line. My guess is I shot the dog and vixen ran but not been to tidy up yet. After I shot the first I quickly spotted a pair of eyes sat in the hedge watching so gave it a few mins and out wandered the neighbour’s cat. That would have been an awkward chat!

Number 2 came back for seconds during the night thiugh

That's a great pic, showing fox interactions 👌 👍

It was yesterday morning for me. The second mornings stalking with one the previous weekend.

As a novice stalker/shooter with me perm primarily open farm land i am learning the art of spooking large herds of fallow out of safe shooting distance, quite successfully based on the most recent outings.

Although i do feel i am learning, even if only what not to do.

When i stalk i do so from my back door and depending on the wind direction i have a fair idea where the deer may be (assuming there close to my field) and yesterday i was spot on.

A herd of circa 50 fallow, mix of does, some prickets and a mature stage keeping them all in check.

Sadly as is often the case when they're in this location a safe shot wasn't on as i would have had to shoot through a thin hedge so i watched. They moved off, munching on the new growth as they went and in the direction they were going i knew where theyd end up.

I chose a direction where id end up overlooking the filed where they were heading but made the mistake of being too slow. As i got close to where i intended to position myself hoping for a reasonable shot, i disturbed three deer about 20-25m., bugger!! (can i say bugger on here??)

Anyway the herd did appear but having spooked the three deer they stood beyond my comfortable shooting range (they were 250m+ from my position) , so i watched as they moved about back and forth teasing me until they got bored and went off to another part of the farm i have a perm on.

So far this year, nothing for the freezer yet, but ill keep trying and hopefully will get close enough for a reasonable shot.
whats a fallow stage ?

Out last night...saw one fox who appeared to be about to pop into the field I was in ...but then it vanished...

Let the dog out about 6.45 this morning and there was a dog fox barking away at the top of the field behind my house. Neighbour called me to say he saw 2 in a field whilst he was pulling up a fence...at 12.30 last night. Try again tonight as interested to see what 120 gr copper does to a fox :)
