Peli cases: 1700, 1720, 3100 Weights.................. The REAL ones !!!

I've treated myself to a rifle for driven boar, and decided to go for one of the Peli cases to keep it safe on the airlines.

I narrowed it down to one of the following, 1700, 1720, 3100, trying to work out the best size for what I want to get in the case V the weight of the actual case, but when I started to look at the weights with, & without foam, and from one web site to another, I found some sizable disparities in weights, some making no sense at all. And given the stingy 12kg weight allowance the airlines give for "sports equipment", a couple of KG can make a difference.

The 1700 varied between 6.38> 7.3kg, the weight of the 1720 foam is listed at 1/2 the weight of the 3100, but both have nigh on identical volumes, or the 1700 foam weighs .4kg, just 20% of the 3100 foam, which is only 20% bigger by volume

So today a VERY nice lady (Deborah) from Peli UK actually got someone to go, and weigh the cases with, and without the foam,

1700 Case No Foam 7.65kg
.......................................................Peli quote 7.3/7.7kg
1700 Case With Foam 8.55kg

1720 Case No Foam 9.30kg
...................................................... Peli quote 8/9kg
1720 Case With Foam 10.30kg

iM3100 Case No Foam 7.00kg
.......................................................Peli quote 6.89/8.98kg
iM3100 Case With Foam 7.90kg

I hope it's of some use to people trying to choose the best option for them, and if it's another from the Peli range, where weight is an issue, insist they weigh it for you !
