Pelican 1700 Foam

Hi all,

I do not suppose anyone has any peli foam inserts for a 1700 that they could measure?

I understand originally there are three sections of foam, dimensions I have found online state the internal case is 96.8 x 40.6 x 15.5 cm.

How thick are the original sheets? Instead of ordering genuine Peli foam, I am thinking about ordering some shadow foam. Would you oder two sheets one for base and lid or stick with ordering three sheets?

Any help is much appreciated!

Cheers,
Kyle

The trouble with the original foam is that it is too soft to be effective or last long. I bought original foam and it lasted one flight! Something like Shadowfoam is much better. Easier to cut an insert to size and firm enough to last

I posted this a while back that might help.

The plan is to order shadow foam and cut to accept the rifle, I just need to measure genuine foam so I can replace with the shadow foam!😂 need to find someone with 1700 foam so I can get measurements

I'm surprised, But I've been using the Easy Foam packaging foam for years, I'd say an average of 4 flights a year for the last 10 years. I have a couple of different inserts depending on what rifles I'm travelling with.

I have used the Ethafoam, which is much more rigid, and easier to cut, if you have plenty of room between parts, but the packaging foam is better if things are tighter.

Always bought foam for my 1750s online from efoam.

Measure the inside of the case length & width to check what you’ve found online is correct.

I’ve always measured how deep the lid of the case is then bought two pieces that thick & a third to whatever the remaining total depth is, ie if the case lid is 60mm deep then I buy two bits that thick which is then 120mm total. Deduct that from your 155mm & the third piece is 35mm thick.

Put one 60mm bit in the lid & the other in the bottom of the case. Then cut the 35mm thick bit to take the rifle & scope etc & put it on top of the bit in the bottom. The middle bit will stop any sliding around inside the case & the two outer bits will cushion stuff from dropping etc.
