Playing with Hamons

One of the current knives I have on the go. This on is a 26c3 carbon steel kitchen craver with a Japanese twist to it.

Had this one differentially heat treated in clay in order to produce a hamon. This is not visible initially but after grinding and then a day or so of had sanding to 2000 grit and then several processes including a few dips in hot ferric chloride eventually , with allot of polishing in between the harmon will develop.

The photos show a few of the stages, a lot more to do until it get a handle.

Well here is how it turned out. Very pleased with it, now with its new owner who will be christening it today.
