Just got my 17 hornet about two weeks ago cracking rifle & round .
Sold the 17hmr to get the hornet so can reload as a reload for .222 & 65.55
So no Brainer really.
So looked up price of 50 new brass £40 p&p which rounds price up to £45.00
Local gun shop for 50 rounds of 17 hornet ammunition is £54 🤷‍♂️
So for an extra £9 a get ready to go bullets . Price per bullet is £1.08 a pop
So should be significantly cheaper when a get me powder . A will try & factor in how much once a start reloading

I can get 2 box 17 hornet for £54
4 miles down road from local gun shop !
Or £45 for 50 empty casings no brainer really 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Can .22 Hornet brass not be sized down to .17?
RWS makes very good .22 Hornet brass that I use, it runs butter smooth through the .22H sizing die.

Brass has risen drastically in value over the last year or so - bigger calibres over £2 a case - so brass now needs really looking after to get the value out of multiple reloads bringing the price down. £2 for five firings (and I'd expect more) is then £0.40....

Yer you can neck it down mite have a go in the future
Wilson do a resizing die
can be done, that’s how i get my 17 hornet brass i buy the ppu 22 hornet brass from kranks.

Got a freind who is in to model engineering to make me some sizing dies. I found it best to neck down in two stages, .20 then .17 rather than one step. You need to also trim the brass, anneal it and fire form it, so takes some time.
I normally do a hundred at a time. Full load for fire forming still accurate and deadly on the rabbits.
Case life is very good and I try hard not to lose any when shooting 😊

lots of information on the web.

What powder are you using al be N 120
It’s what my local gun shop has in
Lil gun is the only other powder I’ve heard used 🤷‍♂️

I am using Vectan SP3 which was a popular powder for when I was loading .410 cartridges and is suitable for .22 hornet.

lil gun is generally considered the best powder for .17hornet, Sadly the REACH legislation reduced the choice of powders.

depending on the bullet weight you are looking to use N110 is also an option, it’s a case of using what is still available.
