Which is hardly supprising, given that we have some very skillful influencers working against us, who very cleverly capture the public's attention and manipulate their thoughts.
Compared to Packham and his ilk, the fieldsports community are rank amateurs when it comes to influencing public opinion. No clue how to do it whatsoever. Just bury heads in sand and hope the problem will go away. Which it won't.
Very true indeed. Unfortunately some believe the shooting organisations will sort that problem for us as part of our monthly subscription. WRONG!
The shooting community is in survival mode as it stands, I don’t think we will see an end to shooting, but I don’t think we will see a growth or resurgence of interest that’s for certain. We are too small a community to influence the general public and public opinion/perception, and too small to influence anything politically in terms of regulations and licensing ASO. Reared game I suspect will come to an end, as will put and take type of fishing, linked activities likely will also seize. This I seen happening on our lifetimes.
Stalking and deer management is clearly being driven towards a private and government contract operation except on private land that is fragmented in small parcels of ownership or tenancy. The local deer managers and fox controllers most likely will continue to operate in the shadows for many years to come, and rough shoots will probably continue to enjoy such activities unless the taxation via sporting rates becomes untenable.
Is there any way to turn the tide of all this happening? I’m not sure,

you go over the edge of a waterfall in a kayak, once the nose starts pointing downwards, there’s no way you’re going back up again. I feel shooting in the U.K. is a little bit on that trajectory. Sadly.
Maybe if we have all out war, Russia cuts our undersea cables and energy supplies, total chaos and destruction, collapse of societal norms and food supplies, maybe the outcome will be people taking to the countryside in pursuit of natural food, natural living, an appreciation for the wild instead of living in urban areas subject to bombing, violence, disorder and unrest - possibly on the back of such, we might see public perception change
