Pulling a sled with quad bike

I’ve recently bought a quad bike and it’d be good to use it to pull my Animal Transit Boxes deer sled. I’m thinking how it’d behave when pulling while driving on an angle, that it would fall downhill and the rope would cross the lower rear wheel. Anyone know of any set up that would stop this happening? Maybe someone’s made something or adapted something

I have used a Slee sledge for years great bit of kit but found pulling it along forest roads wore out the runners to quick so built this trailer which I use in the forest and on the open hill works a treat.

Wouldn't you would use a rigid A frame detachable draw bar in such a situation.

That’s my first thought, so seeing if anyone has maybe made something from scratch and can offer advice and pics, or adapted something and can offer advice on that.

There's a couple of videos on YouTube showing such adaptions and I'm fairly sure that a couple of the guys on this site have also posted photos of how they have adapted their sleds to take a quick detachable draw bar.

I shot a boar one early morning. Went home got the quad bike,went back and roped it on a 3 m length and started towing it easily down the steep knife edge spur. The ****ing pig overtook me and the rope wound around the back right rear stopping it immediately which resulted in the quad skidding out of control. I stood up in the stirrups ready to bail at any time and eventually got control after some very trying moments.

First 3 pictures are of the Junior Jet sled, the last 2 of the bigger model. I use the centre eye to winch the sledge into the back of my vehicle and the outer 2 for a clip on drag rope. I have slipped that over the tow bar on a couple of occasions to tow the sledge with a particularly heavy fallow back to the gralloch location. The Moose kit fitted to my reinforcement on the larger Jet sled is for towing behind the quad using some old aerial target towing bits I had lying around.

Forgot to say that the centre eye also gets...

The last picture shows a Moose towing frame bought from Quad Bike Wales that marries up to my stainless steel reinforcements. The Moose kit was called: Sled Tub Replacement Tow Bar SKU: 45030071 Is this what you were thinking of?

Do note the multiple rotating/hinged links to allow for the sled to follow the quad on uneven ground.

Not wanting to sound daft, but…

If you have a quad then why not get a quad trailer & kill two birds with one stone? - transport the quad to & from stalking ground behind your car or truck in the trailer & then use the trailer to recover your deer behind the quad?

Whilst I don't know the OP's ground, on some of mine, you cannot get a trailer where you could a sled. True, in some places I do use the trailer that's transports the quad for recovery, etc, but even the smallest Ifor P6e that I use is much larger than my sled.

As @wytonpjs says. I transport the quad on an Ifor Wiliams P7e trailer and it just won’t go where I’d need it to.

Why not take trailer as close as you can, then drag beast behind quad back to trailer, or, if you can, lift beast onto quad and tie down.

I have used sleds but my hill ground in Scotland is rocky so am now into fifth season with a sled/carcass trailer from @Stirlinggundogs as per Glade Deer Management and it hasn't missed a beat. Will go anywhere the quad will

That Glade Deer sled with the wheels looks the business. £725 though!
Think I’ll try and add an A-frame and hitch to my existing sled first and see how I go with that.

I was very impressed with the snap on duals on this bike whilst we were hunting in the Wicklows.
It had more pull than a 14 year old boy.

The problem with most trailers are they are too heavy or wide for the ground. You could attack an old trailer with an angle grinder and remove everything but the frame. If its really light, it will go wherever the quad will.
Or fit a massive box to the rear rack?

This is the small trailer that I built everything fits comfortably in my trailer it goes everywhere that my quad goes, it works well for me, there is a post somewhere else on this forum.
