Re Defender diesel motor

The defender line is being shipped and installed in brazil where it will continue being built, only reason why they stopped it in selling the current model in the UK is because it doesn't meet the EU Safety/homologation legislation.

I heard Slovakia and Poland was first choice until the government found out the pittance JLR were offering landowners for their ground.

Hi Martin,

I guess that you are not a defender fan then!

All vehicles have their failings and at 6+ foot I suffer from lack of room in the defender but I love it as a shoot vehicle, despite its failings. I have had a lot of Jap 4x4s and they are great but so sterile, nothing compares to the defender for character and versatility, I have had 7 guns and 3 dogs in my defender 90 on a shoot and when I get home I can just hose it out. It is not as good off road as many claim but as an all round shoot vehicle that also makes you smile it has no equal in my opinion.

Martin
I assume that you must have short arms then as most folks keep banging their elbows.

Wrong,
I was working a car body designer for over 25 years and so I know that this vehicle which was first developed in 1946 then first production built in 1948 then a little more hip room was added ca 1958 with the lower body swage.
Car body design was still in it`s infancy in 1946 hence all the failings on it which are seen as having character today compared with the "extruded from the same design sheet" vehicles that we now see all over the world.
I have a fully restored rebuilt by the UK military Lightweight in my garage waiting for it`s German registration now since 2004 but I have been to busy to do it yet as it is complicated paperwork, so just to fit in with my individual mindset (as I work on the design of cr*p cars up to megga SUVs "sucks up Visa" vehicles for a living) I bought the Tata pickup and have been quite pleasantly surprised by its off road driving feeling, I have done some deep stuff and not got stuck yet.
