Red dot for those with astigmatism

Just had a promotional email from Brownells promoting a red dot optic that is good for those with astigmatism. Some will recall I have suffered with red dots bursting in scopes. It sounds like a positive improvement.

From the advert;

ETCHED RETICLE
The CDC notes around one in three individuals face astigmatism, affecting red dot use. The Raider offers a superior option as its reticle isn't projected onto glass, reducing starburst effects. Illuminated within the optic, it prevents washout by weapon lights, unlike red dots. When activated, the reticle remains visible as a black silhouette, ensuring consistent visibility.

I've not been behind that one, but it is very similar to the Primary Arms 1x Micro Prism which I have been behind (Sportman Gun Centre carry them if you fancy a look).

They are great in that they solve the astigmatism problem, and do so without having to spend big money on an Eotech.
They also use the Micro ACOG (Primary Arms) or Aimpoint T2 (Swampfox) mount so well catered for there. Tend to be brighter glass than red dots too. Plus etched reticle means they work if the batteries or electronic fail, and the reticle can have more information on it if that is desired.

Not without their drawbacks mind. Parallax error, at extremes of eye position, is in my experience more than what is typical on a rifle red dot, the prisms are about the same there as the micro dots for pistols. Eye relief, though sufficient on 1x prisms, isn't unlimited (Though Primary Arms claim their next one is, we'll see) and they have an eye box. I personally don't love the eye boxes on them as I've found them to be very small.
This I find slows down sight acquisition.

They're still fast, faster than irons, but not red dot fast and not as forgiving of weird positions.
If I still had an astigmatism I'd get one without hesitation and just make sure I can perfectly set the rifle up to get my eye behind it perfectly every time.

Hope this helps.
