Red Stags casting antlers

When is the earliest you’ve seen stags casting antlers ? Out today and saw what looked like a group of young spikers and in the middle was one had cast antlers already. He was no bigger than the rest and looked similar.

Anyone any ideas why he’d cast this early?

He probably was just a knobber who never set antlers in his first year. Reds not casting yet
