Remington 700 Trigger recall 2016

Hi all,
Just looked at the American kerfuffle over the 700s dodgy trigger from some years ago. OMG Remington knew all about the potential risk decades ago! As I have just bought a brand new 30.06, I was surfing the web as you do, and this chap had some advice on serial numbers and barrel manufacturing dates and it seems that a barrel and action may be in the factory for years apart before they come together as one with different date letters.
Well, the chap also mentioned Remingtons serial no checker and the trigger stuff. YES, you've guessed it, mine is suspect and I have'nt even fired a shot. (possible blessing ! )
SMK apparently are the UK Remington authorised dealers so my enquirey on this situation is on its way to them as I write.

Will keep you posted.

Bullet chucker , are you able to post a link to the serial number website so we can check?

Many thanks

Ive been waiting over 2 years for a collection notice !

Remington and SMK and Riflecraft and before that Edgar Bro's all all been emailed, replied and said a collection note will arrive ! I have two Remington's both now wear Jewell Triggers fitted by myself.
Do not expect much as they just don't care !

splash,
Sorry to here of your situation. I can only hope mine will fair better.
BC.

Still cannot see what is mechanically wrong with this trigger unit, (Too much threadlock or somesuch crap!), but, in this arse covering world of ours, mine has been replaced with an aftermarket unit.

I am not sure why Remington just doesnt fit Jewell triggers as standard. I have got 2 personal remingtons with jewells on and they are super. I have a work remington and I am not allowed to put a jewell on it even though Ive got a spare one in the cupboard.

I have heard that remington has went back to fitting the J-lock on the bolts and the triggers are even worse than they used to be, not sure if this is indeed the case.

As you know I've not even shot mine yet. Do I back it as unfit for purpose? Or, shall I get a replacement trigger? If I shoot it first it will be 2nd hand. Not had a reply from SMK yet so I will wait to see what transpires. Won't wait to long for them though untill I decide what's best for me.

factory remington triggers have all ways been *****. Mines was recalled the last time recalls were done and the replacement trigger was worse than the one they removed. I would say if I was in your shoes I would either replace the trigger with a Jewell or I would return the rifle asking for a full refund.

I replaced my 700 trigger with a Jewell, very nice. My work rifle got the recall and now wears the x pro, not as nice as the Jewell but reasonable. I well tuned remy trigger can be very sweet indeed.

Never had a problem with a 700 trigger, 33 out of 38 still have the factory triggers that I have tuned on. The non factory triggers were 3 custom rifles (2 jewel,1 timney), a used 5R that previous owner installed a timney, and a 40X out of the custom shop.

After several emails regarding this subject, I dropped my remington off at my RFD today. Riflecraft are arranging for the trigger replacement, around 7 days turnaround, fingers crossed, will keep you posted

Call RC or any other dealer in Remington rifles and say your are bringing Your unfit for use rifles in to them and you wont it sorted as the rifle may be unsafe to use! one of the SD members did and had it sorted , request they fit the trigger while you wait it takes only 15 mins tops two pins and two stock screws sorted , or have them give you one vie a gun plumber . Rem triggers have been crap for more many years .I seem to remember they were told by an employee some years ago but done nothing until some deaths forced there hand ??? the UK importer is next to useless and has less of a clue than a jellyfish as to how this is damaging the Remington name they are more of an Air rifle outlet ?. failing that buy your own and fit it if you feel that you cant rest on the safe use of your rifle. saying that a collection note is on its way is like saying the sun will rise and fall each day it means feck all to the owner , apart from each day is the same You are waiting along with thou's of other Rem owners that have been told the collection note is on its way ?? .When I used to own Rems the trigger was the first part that was upgraded before it was even shot in .

The Rem 700 trigger is a very fine trigger when properly adjusted. They do not come from the factory properly adjusted. That said, I bought a 700 BDL in 1977, my first center fire rifle. Once in a while it would go click when the safety was disengaged. At first I thought it was my fault, then one day when I was out with my lab, it went boom when I clicked off the safety. My finger was no where near the trigger. Back to the factory it went and it has not done it since. When the rifle came back from Remington, there was no note of explanation of what was wrong with it. To this day it is my favorite rifle and has taken many head of game. Still, every time the safety is clicked off, I prepare myself for a discharge. The lady who killed her kid had the barrel pointed at her camper, she thought that was a safe direction as it was pointed up in the air. Always, always have the gun pointed in a safe direction, if you don't know what is a safe direction, ask someone. I'm not being a wise guy here, seriously, ask if in doubt.

Hi Guy's, 'No' answer at all from SMK. So I have decided to go down the replacement trigger route. I will be out of pocket but maybe a letter to Remington will prompt some good will my way. (some hope?)
