Resizing 22-250

Started reloading a year ago for .223 and .243..all fine and I am now in a routine that I am happy with and have achieved some good results as regards accuracy.. Just bought a 22-250. My first attempt at resizing a new case resulted in the case stuck in the die. (lyman). Removed that..checked everything..and slowly tried another case..very stiff..stopped. This time I lubed the whole case inc’ the neck and graphite in the neck…still quite a bit more effort required than for .223 or .243 but ok. Is this normal for 22-250?…or am I doing something wrong??

Check your dies are clean and all protective coating is removed, no grit etc.

I suppose you might have a sloppy chamber but unlikely. A good lube spray (I use lyman but others are good)is superior to rolling on sponge IMO. Gets in case necks. You just need to tumble after sizing

It might be stiff for first few but once lube is coating die it should get easier

Borrow another die from someone and try that. You may have a larger chamber and a smaller die, but both are still within specifications for .22-250.

More lube!! I tend to give the odd one an extra bit of lube on the inner case this just helps but if extra lube has been applied check the neck after re-sizing as to much will result in deforming the brass. Tumble a little extra to remove that extra lube

Not sure what case lube or die set you’re using -

I use the Lee 4 die set for 22-250 and used to experience stuck cases and ‘graunchy’ operation when using Lee Case Lube. I switched to Redding Imperial Sizing Die Wax along with their graphite (likely what you are using) and had no further issues. Also transformed my .303 loading.

If you’ve not tried it yet it’s worth a go - It seems expensive but a tin lasts a very long time and it transformed how using my dies felt.

Would a greater taper angle not be less likely to stick?
Just seems to be the worst I've come across. I can't think of any other reason and I can't think of any other real difference in case design . My 270 required one Hell of a lot less effort to size and that was a considerably larger case
You'd certainly think it would be less likely to become stuck in a die .
From a reloading point of view , I'd say it's been the easiest cartridge to load develope and the worst to size .
Mine seems to become difficult at the web , 36 grain of N140 isn't a hot load according to GRT so shouldn't have caused that much expansion ajacent to the head .
Rereading this is making me wonder if my brass is a little on the poor side ?
