Ridgeline Monsoon Classic Waterproof Jacket

I had one of the earlier models and while it was very waterproof if you had to do any walking it was very sweaty

I had one and sold it.
Sweatiest damn thing ever I wore.
Would have been dryer wrapped in clingfilm.

Not recommended.

I have the original. Very waterproof but like said, anything much more than a gentle walk and you end up soaked from sweat / condensation. I use it for fishing where not very mobile. If I had to recover a fallow wearing it I think I would lose half my weight in sweat.

Fine if you're in a high seat, or on a quad. Anything more physical than that, forget it.

If you’re stalking hard on foot with any waterproof jacket in you will get condensation. You have a number of choices:

Use a thin single layer GoreTex jacket. Military ones are often best in that they usually don’t have insulation layers.

Use a non waterproof layer such as an old combat jacket which you’ve sprayed with Fabsil or Diver Dave’s repellent. If you do it right it’ll keep all but the worst weather out. You’ll still sweat-but with a wicking base layer you should be OK.

Use a heavier waterproof jacket and vent it as much as you can. Again wear a wicking base layer and slow down!

Unless it’s really humping down I wear a combat jacket these days. The old Combat 95 DPM jacket can be had on eBay for not much. The material responds well to proofing and it’s covered in pockets.

Its easy to find army surplus kit online; a zip up thermal jacket, windproof smock and goretex jacket all three for less than £100. That will see you through the whole years weather in the UK. Armpit zips are one of the greatest things invented, rapid venting with ease.

I bought one, I wore it twice. As well as the above problems I found it to be very noisy to move about in too.

Had one a few years ago, wore it a couple of times, sold it. The fabric used is just dire; I’ve got various coats, for both shooting & mountaineering, made from various types of GoreTex, eVent & other proprietary fabrics, and none of them has failed to breathe anywhere near as badly as the Ridgeline.
