Ruger Ranch Rifle Gen 2 & DPT Moderator

I'm looking for short barreled .223 for truck/tractor use and saw the Ruger Ranch Gen 2 with 16" barrel and 1 in 8" twist. Has anyone tried one? Any feedback on the Ruger American action?
I've a few AR magazines kicking about which they've used for the .223/5.56 version which is handy. I've seen a couple of gun reviews and they seem favourable but then which reviews aren't!
Also was keen to try a DPT mod as well, which model would be most recommended?
Thanks.

I’ve got a Ranch Rifle in 223. Not sure what the difference between Gen 1 & 2 is though.
I’ve no complaints, shoots straighter than I can.
Sadly don’t get to use it as often as I’d like.

Main difference between gen 1 and gen 2, gen 2 can use AR mags, gen 1 mags were designed and made by a blind chimp with poor dexterity.
The action however is quite well made, and positive in use, I really think ruger just use shooters as R&D, they usually sell a rifle then within a year the gen 2 version gets released

Thanks for that. Glad to hear the action is acceptable. It just seems a handy little thing for use from a truck or tractor, a heavy, long barreled rifle isnt the best to try and manoeuvre in a tractor cab! Hopefully accuracy will be reasonable.

They are a handy little rifle, mines .300blk, factory synthetic stocks are a little flimsy

I had a gen 2 in .223 that’s used the 10 round PMAGS. Bolt was pretty slack compared to say a tikka. Worst bit was the ejector etc popped out of the bolt head in the field and got lost never to be found again. Replacement took over a year to arrive. The gun shop actually gave me a full refund after 9 months of waiting.

I have a gen 1, use it on goats and turkeys out to 350, value for money, we call them the zipper rifle as until you polish the bolt it can sound like a zipper, mine love 50g, but with 55 g opens to about a inch group. But dead is dead

Gen2 300BLK here, bolt is "industrial", spent a bit of time polishing tooling marks out of it and it runs a lot better.

Generaly feeds OK, dumped the plastic stock and put it in a Tyrbe chassis which takes AICS mags.

For the price no real complaints, it does what it's supposed to do.
