Sako stopped producing Sako 85?

The Sako (GMK) rep Paul was in our local gun shop today and said they are NOT going to stop making the 85. The 100 is top end wood or carbon and going to be £5k plus

Since the demise of the 75, Sako doesn’t produce anything that I’m remotely interested in.

If I was starting from scratch, I really don’t know what I’d buy. Most rifle manufacturers seem to be competing in a race to the bottom.

yep, but they named their best rifle ever the Rihiimaki ;) there.
That's not my understanding. Riihimaki is the place the factory is based, nothing more.
The fact that Americans seem to choose to refer to the Sako L46 as a Riihimaki is their mistake.

No no no, it’s labelled as such. Your mistake, but I will forgive you ;-)

Looks like Sako are also wrong. You should let them know.
The reason it was known as the Rihiimaki is because only few of them actually did bear the L46 stamp, very few, usually only the ones with the LH wing safety.

They generally only had Sako Rihiimaki stamped on the LHS of the receiver wall, and nothing to indicate a model number - hence, it generally was accepted that sako had called it the Rihiimaki, that's all the consumer saw.

Did Sako mean to call it the Rihiimaki? who knows. however, that's 'why', it's known as the Rihiimaki.

had a few, none had L46 stamped, and they were always sold to me as a 'Rihiimaki' not an L46. I believe even Joel Dorleac refers to them as the Rihiimaki, L46.

The 85 line is suspended because there is a war to fight , its not dropped just suspended. I think the 75 was the best , had mine from the launch , though its now more like " triggers broom" McMillan 75 direct copy stock, sassen Barrel , ceracoat only the action is a sako . Just messaged a dealer about another sako 75 that up .
The 75 is my ideal rifle design wise . Deletion of the palm swell was a mistake as was the mag release " impovement" I like the one hand drop box and ramming in a second ( when required shooting multiples) .
All the Berretta Group have done is cut the production costs and increased the margin on both sako and tikka ( i also had a lovely Tikka 595) That had to go because it was 7-08 and back then that meant 140 gamekings ( rendering it pretty much a harder to feed 308) or 120 ? grain nosler BT which i didnt quite crack the load for ( next owner did but it toook him a while )
Berretta group effectively stopped the two brands getting better and better , the metal 595 mag stopped almost 1st day and became plastic.
Of course Berretta are just a big manufacturing group making more washing machines than rifles so what do folks expect ?
Fully support the move to supply Ukraine and rebuild Nato arms , Dangerous times again seems Putin wants to be the next Hitler !

The problem with Sako is that they change the actions and their footprints more often than some people on here change their underwear.
They’re decent rifles but there are virtually no aftermarket accessories available because the market is so fragmented with too many different actions.
Regardless of model, Sako are pretty much break it and dump it rifles because of the lack of off the shelf spares and accessories.
I own one, an 85, but I wouldn’t buy another, just too many variables in the line up.
I did discover today that Fierce Rifles use the same specs from the Sako 85 action for their rifle builds.

Titanium actions, carbon fibre stocks and barrels etc so maybe the aftermarket options are a little better although not cheap but arguably better QC for a smaller production run and 1/2 MOA guarantee with factory ammo.

Sako did recall some rifles for bolts seizing a good while back . That said they make a lot of rifles and you wont find a single car brand that hasn't had to call car back , sort of a good thing really . The 75 had no issues other than the Berretta cost accountants discontinuing it , the new stuff ? Nah ! would buy a Tikka at the lower end and the high end take down one something like a blazer but i dont like them either ( especially after the bolts that have shot out the rear of the action ) .
trouble is in these on-line days is everything is made a little bit worse and a little bit cheaper to make . NEVER had one single issue with my 75 and it was one of the first made

the Fierce actions are indeed copies but with a few, nice tweaks. 70 degree bolt throw being one of them. They also do steel actioned steel barrelled versions for those with a lower budget that retail at about the price of a blaser!

I had a fondle of a fierce rifle at the shooting show. Seemed well made but at a cost. I would choose one over an S20 though.
