Sako stopped producing Sako 85?

Read this on a Norwegian forum, from one who read it on a American forum.


A forum user wanted to order particular Sako rifle, but was told by the biggest distributor in US, that it wasn't possible to get new Sako 85..

Person then called Beretta:
"I just confirmed in a TC with Beretta: the Sako 85 line is no longer in production.

I also talked to JB at Accu-flite. Apparently in December, 2021` Sako made a deal with Finland and also Sweden (or was it Switzerland?) to manufacture assault rifles for both countries to assist in the defense of their 800-mile border with Russia. The production demands of that contract is apparently what necessitated Sako's decision to stop producing the Model 85."



Also Lapua has stopped several lines of brass, to focus more on military rounds for Ukraine and themselves.

Stopping production temporarily because of war contracts is understandable.

I am delighted with my 85, lets hope they resume production in the future, perhaps even with a proper recoil lug. The S20 and A7 aren’t of interest to me.

The Sako 100 will be taking over from the 85 I believe.

There is a critical design flaw with the Sako S20 (bolt stop rounding off) but Sako have refused to do a recall. No good having to replace the bolt stop every 12-18 months.

Wonder how long the Tikka T3x has left before it is replaced by a 'better' model at 2-3x the price?

Blimey, haven't seen this happen before, and hasn't happened to either of mine - cant find much about it on the internet so how common is this?

Have the Sako 85 stainless synthetic a few years now and apart from the rubber cover on the stock, it’s a fantastic rifle.

Me too. I'm very happy with my four 85's. All function perfectly and, together with my AI, will last me out.

I dread the day they decide to really d*ck about with the T3.

It may not be perfect, but as a reliable, functional tool it’s very hard to beat.

I occasionally toy with the idea of just buying one to have in reserve against the day they go out of production.

There is coming a new model which replaces 85.
My guess is that this new model will be announced within weeks.
