In your friend's position, I'd keep an eye on the Meopta offers Optics Warehouse have been having.

Hiya, I am now having to give up shooting due to 3 years of long covid, and no longer fit for it... I have two Meoptas for sale, one a 6 x 42, fully refurbed in May 2020 by Meopta, with receipts to use as a guarantee, used once since it came back as I got covid not long after.... as good as new, and the other a Meopta Artimus 2000 7x 50, which is in great condition. PM me if interested, not looking for fortunes, I just want them to go to be used...
