Selling--Who gets first dibs??

I’ve had several people get bizarrely rude and aggressive when I’ve not sold it to them.

All that’s done is confirm that, as a seller, you can sell it whoever you damn well please.

My own strong preference now is to wait a day or two, and offer it to any regular members I know well, if they’re interested, before offering based on timing of PM.

I think the established position in law is that an advertisement (which a post offering an item for sale presumably is) is an invitation to a potential buyer to make an offer. As far as I am aware, there is no obligation on the part of the advertiser to sell the item at all - far less that they must sell it to to anyone in particular.

Not on SD but I had someone say yes they would have an item and would collect at weekend. I had several other enquiries but let the first chap come as planned. He then started to offer a lot less than it was advertised so I told him it was no problem as had several others offer full price and told him he couldn’t have it. He was not best pleased

What happens when buyer(s) see the "PM sent" and no other follow up on the thread itself leaving other potential buyers in limbo? Oh I know, lots of posts along the lines of "is this still for sale" "has this sold" and so on. I'm not a fan of too many rules but if the item is what you want and you are happy with the price then why not just say so on the thread?

That is why the yes please gets it.

As has been mentioned I have set up a poll.

Easy peasy.

As has been said, the first person who commits (with a yes please or similar rather than a PM sent, PM sent is not a commitment), whether that be in the thread or via PM.
I agree, firat to commit to buy and agrees a price, not the first that soley agrees to purchase then dissapears only to reappear disgruntled.
I agreed to purchase brass on here before, price agreed also, vendor went quiet for a period of time and once contact was reestablished he apologised and said hed since agreed to let his mate have first choice and I could have the leftovers, lousy to say the least!

Why is this even being discussed?
Because it can cause discontent as can items being advertised elsewhere with no mention of this in the sales thread. Over on AGF you can get a ban for this type of behavior ranging from two weeks to sine die. I'm not usually a buyer nor a seller but believe me, it agitates a lot of folks.
