Shipping firearms to the USA

Hi All

A guy I used to deal with is heading back to the USA after being based in the UK for a while. He got his firearms cert and shotgun cert over here and would like take his guns back with him. Especially the nice Sauer 404 he waited a while to get over here.

Does anyone have an recommendations of businesses who can help him with exporting these back the the USA I could pass on to him to help out with this?

Cheers Zetter

Take them along as a personal effects export with covering letters sent to the FEO involved informing and cancelling the 2x certs as he will no longer be a resident in the UK. I did this a few times and had no problems from FEOs.

I took my 10 guns with me last year. If he is moving to the states permanently he can take it with him in the same flight he travelling as his luggage. All he need to do is fill an ATF form and get it approved which is the easiest process of all. Very straight forward.

Cheers both he’s back to the states permanently as his posting to the uk is over. I will pass this on

Create an account on ATF website and fill in form 6 and submit it. Mine was approved in 4 days. Do not use any importers. They quoted me over $4000 excluding tax and other few bits for 10 guns. And the importer i contacted said it’s not an easy job blah blah a blah. But trust me that was the easiest process ever. Also if you go with an importer they will have to engrave the importers name on each gun. At the end I took the guns with me in the same flight and all it costed me was $650 extra that including 2 of my other personal luggage

Cheers for all the advice Max.

I saw the guy yesterday and hes going to go down the route suggested i.e. fill out ATF form 6 and then sort out with the airline as luggage the same as if he was doing a hunting trip abroad.

When you say "based" and "posting", is he military? Could they be put on a service aircraft and taken back stateside?

American friend of mine has been told he can’t import a Baikal into USA because it’s made in Russia.

Hello mate happy to help. I got advice from good people here. So all I’m doing is passing on the information. If your friend got any doubt you are more than welcome to contact me. Oh and also make sure the flight he books his ticket allow guns.

I’m not sure about it. If it’s taking as his personal property then that wouldn’t be a problem
He lives in America and has been there for the last 80 years.
I wanted to send him up to 10 shotguns and asked Cheshire Gun Room for help because it’s something they do on a regular basis.
Everything has gone smoothly at this end but my buddy in US has had no end of sprays thrown in the works by ATF.
Around 2 years since we started this and it’s looking like it might not happen….all down to ATF!

That’s a different scenario than someone permanently moving to USA from the UK. It won’t be considered as personal property then
