Shooting permission next to RAF base

So I’ve been ask to start controlling deer at a farm which borders onto an raf base. Now there’s general safety measures we all abide by and general common sense as a shooter so I don’t need a lecture on that side because I’m incredibly safe as it is. What I want to know is does anyone shoot land that borders military bases and is there no shooting zone around these sites or anything else I need to know as if it’s not worth the chew I’ll just say no.

Ask the farmer what has happened previously if there are any conditions to boundaries as they will have first hand knowledge.

1 farm I shoot has a 50yd no shooting on strip on one block as it is leased.

Just ask the owner

I'm one half of a shooting team for night shooting under license for the Scottish FLS deer control and we shoot right up to the boundary fence of an RAF station with no restrictions.

A long long time ago we used to shoot rabbits in woodland above an RAF base- we used to call at the main gate and speak to the security at the main gate and inform them what we were doing, we had no issue for a long time- one day when I was not out with the person who had the permission, they had a visit from the military police whilst rabbit shooting- I can’t remember the full story but that was the last day they went back there. I would definitely check your permission on who has the sporting rights and give the base a call to inform them that you are not someone looking for trouble if you are seen sneaking though a hedge with a rifle.

I shoot next to a raf base, now a commercial airfield, when a raf base, I used to call in at the gate to let them know,
once I had a helicopter over a field of dessicated peas, the crop was flattened, I was 200 yds from end of runway, the military police had walked past my car to sneak up on me, saw them coming unloaded and stood up to meet them,

As a matter of courtesy I would inform the Gatehouse of the general intent, give them rough location, VRN and a contact number. If nothing else it stops unnecessary shouts for them. They may want a general note, they may want by day reports. It all depends on what DEFCON they are on. Round here, they are OK on known vehicles, but can be hot on unknown, or if there is someone unfamiliar on duty their side - or if they are bored.....!

Its the RAF so you won't be in any danger:lol:,they aren't known for leaving the perimeter. Joking aside, having permission in writing and informing the guard room is a good idea. While a lot of sites are looked after by MGS who tend to be ex soldiers some will be RAF Reg who have completed the 5 miles of death:rofl:

Yeah that was next port of call as it’s son in law that’s been speaking to me. Good shout 👍🏻

I'm sure their permiter fence cameras will be able to distinguish between the use of 'friendly' IR kit and that of more recent and cutting-edge provenance.

Harsh!😳😂

be aware that they often have raf police patrols out day and night doing perimiter checks, often come acroos them. if there is a track on your side next to the wire with easy access, expect to find them at any time of day or night.
i once blocked one into a gap in the hedge, as i thought we had poachers...lol the van had no markings so how could i tell !
you will get more activiity at an active flying station too.
just make a call to the station commanders office and ask, they wil respond. none will risk bringing the raf into dis-repute with the neighbours.
we have roughly 3km of fencing from an active flying station.
