Shotgun coaching costs.....?

Can I ask the good members on here what there experience has been regarding the cost of shotgun tuition...? Hourly rate, cartridges/clays included or not...... I have booked a lesson near cambridge, but it seems very (very) expensive, or perhaps my expectations are way off piste.

edit, there was a misunderstanding on what i was quoted for. Still not cheap, but considerably better than what I was told.

i have coached shotgun pistol and rifle both civv'y and mod, and my 2p worth would be to advise you to join a clay club and get free advice from the coaches in said club ,then if you can't sort your pitfalls out or bad habits then book an hour with a coach say basc day up your way

That was what I thought, I have just looked at WLSS and Berskshire shooting schools who I know to be good and equally pricey, but they top out at £99 and £122, I was told my lesson would be £130! Urm......no thanks!

That said Sam Grice has a good name and you may be getting more than 100 shots for you money? I guess it depends as to what standard you're at? If you're shooting 80% at standard sporting layouts then you're going to need to spend big to see much improvement. However if your average is less than 50% then your local gun club or competent amateur should be able to help you improve your scores considerably.

Well, I've just had my first ever shotgun lesson, despite having owned and shot the things for about 15 years now.......
what a fantastic coach Sam was, I suspect his reputation is well deserved, he got me up to a success rate I have never thought possible, and more importantly instilled a bit of confidence in me that I actually wasn't quite as crap as I had thought, breaking somewhere towards 80-90% of the clays he put in front of me.
i now have a reignited enthusiasm to improve and spend a bit more time enjoying this pastime!
thanks also to Mick, AKA monkey spanker for your offer of help and your advice on phone, once again the good will of SD trikes, and I looks forward to hooking up some time to scatter some lead around a clay ground.

I fully intend to! And yes, sams reputation is well deserved, and an absolute gentleman to boot. I will be going back!

Took my brother in law to Bisley yesterday for full lesson with one of the instructors lasting an hour and "100" clays - £75. Seemed expensive before going but upon leaving we were very pleased. Focus was on him learning some specifics and it was tailored very well to our needs. Wouldn't do it every weekend but I think an excellent thing to do at the beginning of the season.

I coach at a fair few ground most mentioned here. One ground you pay £150 for an hours teaching with me and 100 clay and cartridges a 100m away you £75 for 75 clay and cartridges plus £8 per extra 25 of each go figure.

You had a naughty instructor we all do it though book a guide for 1 hour and ask for extra help he'll normally teach then just give him a nice tip as he's not meant to coach at all just push buttons and you've just saved £75!!!
