Should the Youth get into deer stalking ???

Years ago I had a lad who came stalking with me, in fact he at the time was working on a farm in the holidays while he was leaving school and then going to college that farm I still have permission on my to this day over 15 years ………. Then he found drink and women.

That’s why I don’t bother anymore

The previous reply is similar to what a lot say "I am not talking to you ever again" 20 mins later "would you like a cup of tea?"

Can you put me back on your ignore list please🙏 then I can post my opinions as I see it from my perspective.
I have acquired more stalking from foxing and farm repairs (mobile welding) over many years, but I started off with a jill ferret and 10 nets at 11. However the OP will not be in that position (yet) so from being a regular face on a farm through beating is one way to make a start.
You can still post your opinion, and belittle people for having little knowledge in field sports, whether you’re on my ignore list or not.

That is your biggest issue though, and it comes through loud and clear, you only ever see it from your own, perspective.

Very few rabbits to ferret now and beating doesn’t get very many people stalking for the reasons posted above.

If you're suggesting that only celibate teetotallers can become stalkers, I think you might just have an argument on your hands from a significant proportion of the SD membership.....

😂😂 but when you try to help and they can’t be bothered anymore it’s 🖕from me and carry on regardless, lesson learned and mistake not to repeat

The reason you gave as to taking me off your ignore list was to check I was not typing about you, and you would have seen that.
As for belittling people you chose to make comments about my mother (twice) despite me telling you she had passed away.
So admin had to deal with it. So on a sliding scale you can't seem to help yourself, surely there is a reloading thread running to spend you day on tell people what they are doing wrong.
I used to put your comments down to having a bad day but 364 (day off at xmas) is about your norm lol

I didn’t make any comment about your mother, I just mentioned that as a middle aged man you lived with your mother, yet always position yourself as having far more life experience than others.

I also did not know that she had passed (hence saying you live with your mother in the present tense) and as soon as I found out I DM’d you and apologised.

But don’t let the facts get in the way Tim.

And as I said last time, you’re still on ignore but there is an option to view ignored content.

Some people will lose interest, and it will often be when they find something more interesting like women! You shouldn’t take it personally or let it discourage you.

Taking new people out is something I really enjoy some continue with it, others don’t, that’s just life and not isolated to stalking.

You did it twice (Just mentioned lol) and what is it got to do with any one who live with who as it is none of anyone's business?
But like you all over you make it yours...
I lived with my Dad to look after him until the day he died is that anything to do with you, let me answer that for you NO it is not.

Answer me this, what has it got to do with you who anyone lives with?

Seems to me you must have a problem with it

The point was you will often run others down for not having the experience, or commitment etc. but haven’t, for example, had the pressures of a wife and children to deal with.

As I said above, you only ever see things from your point of view, and your dog is always the blackest 😉.

Take the OP’s other thread for example, he simply asked how long it took to get on a paid stalk. He acknowledged his lack of experience, was quite happy to pay for the experience yet you suggested he was doing it wrong!

Paid stalking is a very accessible first rung on the ladder.

Yes it’s crucially needed, for more reasons possible to mention. Many youngsters are keen and willing but not equally welcomed and give up because it is too little interest given them. Some individuals goes to great lengths to help youngsters get going but it’s an absolute minority.

There's a lot of sensible young individuals that would be perfectly fine stalking, however there limited by the firearm act ruling that stops them using a firearm in a stalking scenario until there 17.

I'm in a discord that has hundreds of thousands of user's related too a rather large prolific hunting game they have a real life hunting chat as expected, whenever I see a user go "I wish I could hunt In my country but Its near impossible" Most often or not once I ask they confirm there in the UK, So I guess overall education Is one of it as well not many of the teenagers realise they can go out hunting with pretty much only insurance with a guide (assuming) there over 17 In this country.

Sure It costs money however from what I've personally noticed browsing on this forum If you were in that scenario there are a LOT of people that love too see folks get there first deer FOC even arraigning transportation too.

Unless you have a friend that's willing to bend the rules Its pretty much impossible for teens too get started otherwise.

That's not strictly true.
A child of 14 can be granted a FAC, obtain their own rifle, and stalk unaccompanied.
It's only the non FAC holders that have to wait until they're 17.
So don’t paint the picture blacker than it really is.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, there's an awful lot of experience to be gained without actually pulling the trigger. How do you define "getting started"? Shooting is such a small part of stalking, and not neccessary the bit that a beginner should be beginning with. Learn to stalk first, and ID species, and assess suitability for culling, and do the gralloching, etc etc. The shooting can come later.

As any ancient I have always enjoyed getting youngsters into hunting/shooting/stalking. Just one example of a friend's son who has after a year or two reached that age and bought his own bundooki.
My case rests.
