Sierra 180 gr Game king

Thinking of the above bullet head, for wild boar, will be shooting from a high seat, my question is can I use Vit n140 behind it or H414, or Varget, as I got a good supply, of these powders, as don't really want to buy more powder, or perhaps there is a more suitable, head for the powder I have. 41.0 - 41.5gr of Varget, 180gr GameKing, 2500fps, dead pig. Simple.

The 180gr GameKing is a fair bit tougher than the 150gr and 165gr with a thicker jacket. Good choice for pigs.

Changing components would be unnecessary and a waste of your hard earned!

(Assuming its a .308 but if its .30-06 then its just a wee bit more powder, same outcome)

40.2gr N140 under 180gr gameking works for me.

You might also want to take a look at the Pro Hunters as well - they are flat based so hold together better than the boat tailed GKs (or so I hear!).

I'm using the 180gn Pro Hunters in my Win Mag - its a great bullet.

There are recipes, yes, on Hodgdon's website for H414 in the .308 WCF with the bullet weights you enquire of.

I use 41.0gr N140 under 180gr bullets (Norma Oryx vs SGK) in .308. Very accurate.

Just tried loading Sierra 180gr GK (2160) with H414,on hodgdon web site states starting load 46.0gr,so went with 47.0gr,as a starting load but that was filling the case to much to seat the bullet,using ,lapua brass
am i missing something,as i got Vit N140. But wanting to finish my H414

Imo unless your going to shoot a 100 i'd just buy factory and save the pain chasing a load but thats just me , I used Samson 180gr £13 a box x20 . but then I never shot any in the 5 times I tried so I'v still got them ,

Just thought the case was to full as the head was going into the powder, as never seen that before so thought I would ask better safe than sorry thanks

No need to be sorry but it is a common thing in reloading to find a powder that bulks up the entire case. If you look at some load data, there might be a foot note that says says that an asterisk, or the letter "C" denotes compressed charge. If you were loading Lil Gun powder in a 22 Hornet you would know that the powder spills out the case mouth if you use the wrong brass. I tap it down to settle it and crunch a bullet onto the top. Supremely accurate and safe.~Muir
