Another good Red Stag, 12 pointer, along with a very large bodied Sika stag. All taken last week along with another 2 mature Sika stags and 4 Red Stags.

Season going fairly well up to now in the highlands.

Good crack with clients and all my good friends. Weather stunning and good times :D

looks like your having a good time of it, just one thing I hope the rifle in pic 2 was unloaded as I don't think he would pass any muzzle awareness test with that pose.....lol

Well done Ricky shame I couldn't have been with you, I hope your father didn't stop you pulling the trigger this time:-D

thanks howy308,the deer aint so bad either, we had the greatest of times ,many thanks to malc and his team, of mark ,and the missus to be for keeping us fed and watered for the week, great stalking great time, see you soon all,

There was the roaring of what can only be described as a huge red stag heard yesterday morning, coming from the direction of a high seat on the forest edge but it seemed to stop when Tommy opened his eyes!

I'm pretty sure I should not have said that

John

I think it was the whisky rut!! what a shame I didn't have the camera or phone with me :D

No luck this morning as the whole area was shrouded in thick fog which has only just cleared at 10am. We have some Reds in the Re Gen area including two big stags and a handful of spikers we need to connect with. Daft dog and Simon are over JAYB's today.

Thanks Johan, good hunting with you, Jim, Pete, and Ricky. Have you all booked in for next year same time.

Well that's me done on the stags in the highlands, 1st week 3 Sika Stags and 1 Red Stag for 2 clients.

2nd week 4 clients 3 Sika Stags, 6 Red Stags including a massive royal.
3rd week SD. 9 deer, including some good size Sika Stags.

Thank you everyone look forward to next year with you all.

Well done Malc, that Royal is a cracker, where about was he?
Glen, did you post the result of your trip anywhere ?
It would be interesting to compare particularly as your trip was a little earlier and I wondered if the time perod made any difference.

Do you mean this one Toad?

Gentlemen, (Ladies most welcome also!)

We are running a stalking week for 8 - 10 rifles in some of our forests in Caithness, the ground is split into 12 beats over 8000 acres with excellent stalking and over 20 high seats.

The cost for the week is £500.

Dates are as follows:

Arrive Sunday 29th September 2013, Stalk all week long morning and evening with Friday 4th October 2013 being the last days stalking.

Estimated cull for the week will be 15 Red stags but possibly up to 30, Roe Buck's can also be taken.

No trophy fee's on any stag or buck, good quality Red stag's are present with 12/14 pointers not being uncommon on the ground during the rut.

Accommodation can be recommended by us no problem but is your own responsibility to book and pay for it. The Recommended hotel is : About :: Ulbster Arms Hotel

DMQ 1 and insurance is a requirement for unaccompanied stalking in these forests.

Those without DMQ can attend but will require to be supervised by someone with DMQ2 or one of our AW's.

You can stalk in pairs if you so wish.

We have an Approved Witness available possibly 2 for those wishing to finalise portfolios, you will be put in contact direct with the AW's (Additional charge for witnessing to be arranged direct with them).

Stalking will be operated on a rotating beat system, there are 12 beats varying between 500 and 750 acres, you will be allocated maps and a different beat every morning and evening, most beats have excellent high seats with roof's.

The morning stalk will be first light until 11am and the evening stalk 3pm to darkness, it will be operated this way to allow for carcass extraction and for safety reasons to ensure everyone is accounted for, the ground is very remote and dangerous in places so a high level of common sense, the ability to read maps and mark locations of shot deer is essential.

All carcass extraction will be carried out by ourselves, carcasses can be purchased if you require but otherwise remain the property of Game Management Scotland limited, trophies are yours to keep.

This is a unique opportunity to experience the Red deer rut in one of the remotest locations in Scotland, Stags travel through in search of Hind's all the way through the rut, you may encounter them any where and at any time, as many will be aware nothing is more exciting than being in a forest with Red stags roaring all around you.

Good hind numbers are resident (hefted) in the forest and provide a steady attraction for stags.

You will be able to take from this week a great deal of experience and whilst you will be able to socialise and mix with other stalkers if you so desire you will also be able to stalk alone and need not bump into another person all week if that is how you wish to do it, we can tailor it to suit your needs within reason.

Any questions please direct them only via PM or email to myself Glen via Glen@gamemanagementscotland.com

Full payment will be due in order to secure your place, once you have paid you will receive maps and full details of the plan!

No posts to this thread please, we will keep it clear for updating and additional information. Also follow updates via our face book page https://www.facebook.com/GameManagementScotlandLimited?ref=hl

Advisable equipment will include emergency overnight survival kit, GPS or even better a GPS satellite messenger system, we use these: http://www.findmespot.eu/en/index.ph...nnerBottomSPOT , Very little phone signal is available in the area, you will be expected to listen and adhere to safety advice given on location by ourselves.

Regards

Wow ! That's the one.
How many guys took it up and what was the count in the larder at the end.
It sounds as if it should have been a good trip too.
I too shall be watching for this one next year.

yes thats the one glen . but i was more interested in seeing some pictures and feedback from the guys who went on the last trip.is there a thread somewhere else with that info

Toad & EmCC I was one of twelve who booked and went on this 12 blokes stalked twice a day on 12 beats, 2 beats were rested each day as there were two pairs. The rest were single unaccompanied of differing abilities and experience. I haven't done a write up as there isn't much to tell. I shot a cracking 8pointer on the Tuesday evening 127metres away that I heard roar on last knockings but there wasn't no stalk to it. I was too slow on the Tuesday morning when a Sika 6pointer crossed the ride with only 2 metres and 5 seconds to react. He was less than 80 metres away. The Friday afternoon I glassed three stags 6p and two spikers out in open ground 500 metres to cover. I stalked the stream bed out of sight but didn't go far enough and turned back due failing light. That's the best bits.

If everyone had stayed and stalked to Friday afternoon there would have been 120 stalks for a return of seven stags and roebuck I think it was. Some of the guys didn't do Thursday afternoon or Friday as they chose to leave early. The main stalking was in Strathmore forest blocks, Caithness, but the Tuesday was in rims dale Sutherland, where Kev and I shot our stags. There was a cancellation on this ground and as the chance of Sika, Red and Roe made the 120 mile round trip.

The weather was crap. Hot 18c at its hottest and mot much roaring. Other than what I've written above I only saw 1 roe doe, 1 roe buck in the woodland over the week. Outside of our boundaries on open ground around Strathmore saw 60+ reds groups of stags and small groups of hinds. On route to and from Rimsdale saw over 120 big hind groups and stags roaring real contrast between the two areas.

scenery was amazing and had great views. The organisation was great and safety procedures booking in and out.

I can't say much more that's pretty much how it was.

There is a post titled Caithness/Sutherland stag week where some others have posted but it seems to have dropped off.

Hope this helps.
