Sled/Sledge recommendations please.

I have been manually dragging deer for years with a sledge made from a blue plastic 45 gallon drum cut in half which I cannot recommend highly enough. Cheap, easy to drag and indestructible....But. This year I have started using a quad and the drum works great with smaller deer but fallow bucks tend to roll out while going along. Can anyone recommend a good flat bottom sled that won't wear out but not too long ? Would be even better if it had a cover too though I'm sure I could make something. Before anyone says it the Tracer is utterly useless. Cracked at the same time as the bottom wore out of it about 4 trips out! Total rip off.

Sorry but the answer is the Jet Slead with the additional runners and the cover. I have one (minus runners) and its great but I wish id got the runners :( The cover is also a must have for towing.

Sadly hard to get and expensive but I love stuff that just works

$255 us dollars delivered to the UK

I have the JS1 ATC which fits perfectly in my Rav lengthways

If you do bite the bullet and order one in please order me 2 sets of runners or Wear strips as they call them

This one either from Bushwear or elsewhere using your Google-fu from somewhere like Frankonia when on special offer - mine cost me less than half RRP including the stainless runners.

May sound silly but what about a cut down wheely bin, come in different sizes width etc cut length wise they have a slope towards the handle end. Bit cargo net, scallold net fixed over the top. Have a look at a bin next time your out.

Another option cheap sett of skis from a charity shop, cut down attached to a bit scaffold board then attach to your barrel with big flat headed bolts and wing nuts, that would give your barrel a bigger foot print may not tip as much. Also I've some net if you want a bit for top of whatever, heavy duty bout inch half square. Pm me addy I'll chuck some in post.

Thanks for the replies guys. Real food for thought. The jet sled looks like the best bit of kit but pricey. In the short term I had a rummage around with what I had at home and inspired by macfarlane have screwed a couple of bits of shaped 4 x 4 to the sides of my old blue drum to act as out riggers....seems pretty good. though time will tell. Has any one had any experience with the Euro Hunt sled , its the perfect size for me as would be able to fit 2 in behind quad on trailer. Bushwer do them though Frankonia have them on offer at 70 Euro:

Euro hunt tray isn't very big 900mm long and 600 wide I seem to remember ?

OK for small deer and all roe but a bit of a faff on big bucks

No cover for it but I am sure you could make one

What ever you chose it must have rungs on the bottom AND a sloped front to drag over rocks and logs

That’s the one I linked earlier that Bushwear sell - and the stainless steel runners to suit.

Frankonia also sell it and the cover, and at 127cm x 66cm it’s large enough for a big red stag (or four grandchildren when it’s snowing!).

Good bit of kit but pricey at rrp unless you can wait until either outlet have a sale going on.

Hmm had a trace. V flimsy and soft material. Hit a stump doing about 5mph with a fallow in it and it just split in two. The blue drum is 900 and can get big bucks in no problem..... Though have to remove head at shot site.

The Slee Sleigh - tel 01436 810003 07836 745 441. I don't have one but watched a YouTube on it at Alba Deer Stalking. Looks like proper kit but won't be cheap.

Otter sled available at the hunting lodge in kent and you can get covers. I’ve got one there great
Now that looks great and reasonably priced though the £40 carriage is way ott I’ll give them a ring as they seem to be out of the mini.

I bought this stainless tray from B & D Stalking equipment, fantastic bit of kit and it should last a lifetime. Pm me if you want any info.
