Snaring Deer

A mate and I found snares on trails leading into a sambar wallow, they were made from twisted nylon rope, circa 10' long.
Mate pulled the knife out and cut every piece into 3' lengths.

Without sounding too self riteous, he's breaking the law. If it were a keeper the cops would be all over it.
In Scotland we have lost the right to snare [ foxes, hares and rabbits]. When I was keepering 50% of my foxes were taken in snares.
I remember when folk set snares for roe and it was horrible . It's animal.cruelty, he should be reported, by the sounds of it there's enough evidence for him to be done. He's doing fieldsport and more notably deer no service.
Please excuse my ignorance on this , but , what's the difference between snaring a rabbit or fox , and a deer ?. Apart from the size of the animal.
I've snared plenty of rabbits and foxes over the years , but I've never even heard of snares for deer.

Up until the 80's a lot of folk would set snares for Roe , use a fox snares make the loop bigger and about 8" off the ground. The snares would be locking without stops , so generally catching by the leg. Not a nice sight. It was also common in places for folk to snares larger deer using mild steel fence wire. Certainly not humane, and legislation was tightened,

I should have been more precise with my question really .
My question was . do deer react differently once snared ? , and is that why the snaring of deer was banned ?.
I've seen how rabbits and foxes react once snared , but the snaring of deer has never been on my radar.

They don't act the same. They do struggle and the fact locking type snares [ no stops] were used, it was not a pretty sight
