Splitting axe or maul

Well done on getting the axe. I don't recognise the brand though. It looks hand forged but other than that I'm guessing. The shape is definitely more axe than maul though. Good luck with it.

As an aside never wear gloves. Big boots, but never gloves.

It’s a hultafors. Hand forged as you suggest.

VSS. I’m hoping it works well. The cutting edge is 1 cm less than a fiskars which a lot of people had suggested but the head is 8 mm wider / thicker. Will keep you all posted on how it goes.

Well the axe works just lovely. Splits fresh ash with no effort at all. I was able to take some seasoned logs away. Oak and beech and birch. Some of the beech was a little harder to split with knots in it. Interestingly there was a maul next to the pile of logs so I tried it on the harder to split stuff. It had no advantage over the axe and felt very unwieldy.
