I have a Tikka T3x super varmint and am considering replacing the barrel to a sporter to reduce weight. Would I also have to replace the stock as this would obviously create a large gap or does n’t that matter?

This will tell you all you need to know...

It might save you a bit of it has a good bore, to have the barrel re-profiled and cut shorter to suit your needs.

The stock can also be reworked if you can find someone competent, to close the gap by inserting a bit of wood, it was routinely done in the early 1900’s and you won’t notice unless you know about it.

But it might not look all that bad with a large recess so I would probably try it first and then decide about reworking it.

You can buy a Tikka with a sporting barrel with the green roughtech stock

Look at your overall kit before spending lots of money on changing a barrel to reduce weight. Or loose an inch from around your middle, and that makes a huge difference to getting up a hill.

Thanks. I want a rifle that is lighter.

I have a T3x Varmint & a T3x Veil Wideland both in .223 Rem along with a spare Super Varmint stock. I can tell you that the Wideland sporter barreled action fits perfectly into the Varmint stock without any issues whatsoever. Yes, there is an increase in barrel clearance but to me it doesn't look odd nor ugly in any way, I suppose its float is more free!
