Stalking gloves

X3 Sealskinz but not the leather ones. They cost about £30 and have kept my hands warm and dry beating on the grouse moors and pheasants this year. When stalking i usually take them off to shoot as they are thicker than the leather ones, not a problem as a warm gralloch awaits.
My friend has MacWets and was always complaining about cold fingers, he since changed to Sealskinz.

Adding to what I said before, a good hat is a big help too in terms of reducing heat loss. I have a range of hats to complement the weather. Even with a winter hat on this morning, it still seemed odd to see snow showers go by from time to time.

has anyone tried any of the macwet gloves? just noticed they were promoting hard at a show last week including shooting gloves

I use Harkila goretex gloves, they waterproof windproof and keep yor paws toasty warmthey were about 45 quid but worth every penny. I also tried some deerhunter ones oncant remeber the model, im sure they had neopreme palms though, and these were very comfortable. And although not tried outside would imagine they would also be very toasty.
I had some SealSkinz from 20 years ago and although waterproof, they were never warm or grippy. Maybe they are better now. I use army surplus desert pattern gloves. Thin leather, unlined and only a few quid. They are fine for all but freezing conditions (how cold can it get in Scotland, really? 
). Padded knuckles for crawling. A bit light coloured for me so I darkened them down a little with shoe dye, and rubbed a bit of wax dubbin in for waterproofing. 5 years on and I can't wear them out. Nearly bought some new ones the other week but seemed like a waste of £10 while these were still going.

I have!
I own 3 pairs - one pair live in my stalking jacket, one in my game shooting jacket, and a lightweight pair are in my pigeoning bag. The first two pairs are climatec, for the first few mins if it's cold and/or wet your hands don't feel much different, but once 5 minutes have elapsed, they seem to stay very toasty. Plenty of 'feel' in them, and mine have been worn plenty and seem to taking it in their stride. I'd defo buy another pair if I needed to.
