Took some photos today showing my sticks.

Not a fine work of art true, but very functional. Note how I open them single handed simply squeezing just below the pivot.
The leather strop supports the rifle even when the legs are wide apart and the shape of the top offset bits of wood limit the extent that the legs can be opened.

HI GUYS, i went to B AND Q and bought myself a pair of aliminium poles coated in green plastic, cut them to size fixed together with a nut and bolt at the top with a couple of bolts between them so they open and close easy and fixed a leanth of nilon string across to each pole with washers so the string didnt pull through about 2' down the shaft so they dont come appart, i also put a bit of leather rapped round the top and they work fantasticly, they cost me a grand total of £8 to make, very light and i use then for a walking stick when closed.

I like this design (the guy is Danish not Dutch by the way) mainly because it feels like one stick not two stuck side by side when walking.
I have some 14mm Yellow Balau decking board which is very hard/stiff (its a kind of teak) that I plan to use.
Its easier to shape two rectangular bits than it is to slice a pole perfectly down the middle, with or without a band saw.

Thing I almost did is measure the stick length to the length I wanted at the closed height. you need to measure it to the height you want when open which makes it longer than most walking sticks but gives you a solid base.

I also am trying to incorporate the strap that joins the fork and you can stand on one end. by standing on the strap and pulling it tight by pushing the fork away from your foot you effectively have a tripod without having to carry the extra leg
