Following on from the price of pups at the moment what are people paying for the dog to line the bitch ?
I have always charged pick of the litter or price of a pup as payment as have my mates.
I have a good working KC 2yr old EES dog and have being asked for him to line a bitch and the owner is looking for £2000-2500 a pup!

If he's charging 2500, he pays 2500. Simple as that.

Still a bloody ridiculous price for puppies though.

Responsible breeders are holding off as the crazy prices are being paid by unresearched and irresponsible buyers. I would never forgive myself if a pup was abandoned or neglected.

I quite agree but i thought if i got £2000+ for stud fees i could buy a pup next year when the price dropped back a bit?

You're being very greedy and will end up with £0s. £600 ish is the current going rate for FTW and health tested dogs. Sorry but if your dog hasn't won anything it's goint to be considerably less than that. People have a lot of choice. ESS puppies from winners are going for a lot less than £2000 anyway.

We looked into breeding our Teckel bitch. One stud dog owner wanted pick of the litter and if more than two dapple pups were thrown, he wanted an additional £1000 .
Our Teckel has still to come back into season, so we haven't had to follow up, as yet.

For Cockers
FTW approx £400
FTCH approx £600
Dog that has been a beating dog £100-300 depending on owner

even if Dogs where going for old prices I would never give up a pup for stud fee

Always had a POFL for using my dog as stud.

I have two pups coming to me for a stud fee shortly, but I am keeping one but moving the other on.

Don’t see any reason as to why you cannot have the POTL, just because of the high price of pups.

Not sure we’re you getting your prices from ?
I was getting the price of a Ess pup 20+ years ago of £250 +
I bet you will struggle to find a pup for a lot less than £ 2000 unless it is from a good friend at the moment?

Nope. I can book one tomorrow. Someone who's one here booked one on Friday.
What has 20 years ago got to do with today anyway?

Because that's way above the going rate. The owners of FTCH dogs are charging £600. Why would anyone pay one person in a pup when they can pay someone else £600?

The going rate is exactly what people are willing to pay.
They can choose to pay whatever the stud fee is, or they can have a POTL, or they can walk away.
Either way, the person with the stud will dictate the fee which has always been the case.

So how much is the Ess pup that you say can buy tomorrow then ?
£1500. Mother and father winners.

I'm not trying to knock your dog because it may be the best dog in the country. However, if it's not got awards the price of the pups will be limited considerably. That's why people use award winning stud dogs and the owners of those dogs are charging £600. People don't have to listen to me because they can have a quick look on websites for themselves.

Paid £600 for my Teckle bitch for stud, cash paid on delivery of pups, £200 down on day of mating.

We paid £150 stud fee for a good working ess dog with a very good family history of workers . We had 8 pups £1500 each and 3 of them have been bought by my syndicate members who booked them when I told them who I was using. All pups are now 4 months old and looking very well . In my opinion you don't have to have a field trial champion, k c registered and all the other bells and whistles bu..s..t as long as you know the dogs history

Hi I just recently breed my fully health tested lab Bitch and sold some pups on here at a pre pandemic price as I believe responsible breeders should, the stud dog i used was a FTW as I was looking for good honest working lines / pups it was a repeat mating with the same stud and as he wasn’t a FTCH the fee was £400 as it was 2 1/2 years previously. I’m now hearing the owner has put up the fee to £500 , me personally I think for a FTW with every health test under the sun and I mean every test done (the owner is a veterinarian nurse) is a very fair price. I believe it’s very old school for a stud dog owner wanting POTL and to be honest haven’t heard of that for years until this thread ?? Because there is no way on this earth I would go through 8 weeks of what is very very hard work and potentially dangerous for my well loved Bitch to give away what is potentially the best pup No chance !! And please believe me I don’t intend to offend anyone when I say this but anyone wanting thousands for use of their stud is only fuelling the puppy price chaos and probably won’t be using him much??( that’s only my opinion) me personally I would have a little laugh at them and go and find a more realistic stud dog owner. Thanks
