Terrapin in Hertfordshire?

I was out walking this afternoon in Hertfordshire.

Stopped by a village duck pond and spotted this creature.

I suspect that it is a terrapin and, therefore, an invasive alien.

Does anyone know for sure, please?

And what do I do about it?

Report it to the rspca, give them something useful to do, just say it looks in distress or something. They’ll be there on blue lights to come and rescue it.

Let's just say this example of an alien species was despatched with a firearm.... just say.... could it then be stuffed and mounted or would a trophy terrapin upset the upsettables?

Commoner than you think due to dartmoordog's comment above. They also have quite a nasty bite when they get to a decent size, in addition to which they are well known carriers of E. Coli, so make sure you wash your hands after gralloching it!;) If you get a few, you could possibly end up with a nice set of soup bowls...... Just joking.....tssssk!

Yes , quite common now, seen them the size of small dinner plates on the canal!!!

Air strike.

Lots of them around these parts ( west midlands) . My mate filmed one laying eggs last week while he was fishing.
