That rod would make for a sore back

Just seen an ad for an FLS lease and saw the list of qualifications required before you can apply for it.

Seriously !?

All those pushing for these courses obviously have vested interests as no right minded stalker would make such a rod for their own back.

Don't discuss of you don't want to and I know it's been done before but I felt that ad really brought it home how our hobby is being ripped from us and turned into a cash cow.

It's pest control, same as shooting rabbits.

RAKE ABOOT I hope you know that you now need at least CCC1* on some permissions in order to go shooting rabbits?

* Coney Control Certificate 1.

I remember my CCC1 well. Having to identify the differences in real photographs between rabbits, cats, the Easter Bunny, Hartley Hare from Pitkins and a tricky part in shadow image of a small miniature poodle wearing a silly hat.

Not an easy thing at all. But well worth the £150 course fee, manual and CD ROM costs and etc. on CCC1.

I've not actually ever shot any real abbits so far ( the one I shot on CCC1 was a cardboard rabbit target) but I now consider myself fully certificated, documented and competent as a CCC1 holder.

You should see what happens to the paper trail, compliance, etc once you are granted your 'permission' - to
share in their efforts - you'll find they can continue to do as they please, so the 'paying for the privilege' of assisting with the pest control is by no means any sort of exclusive right to stalk; a book could be written of the aspects and 'instances of interest' in Scotland.

I had a look at a lease to get in with former forestry commission or whatever they called now and one of their contracts ....

Holy sh1t !

The application was like war and peace and even your deer dog basically had to pass tests / interview !

I’m not against training I have DSC 1&2 have done for years but Jesus h Christ!!!!

How many other hobbies are so mental to the point of trying to put soooo many barriers in your way before you even start ?

( ok a contract is professional culling I digress )

It seems that for deer stalking, where, like parasitic fleas, (and they know fully well who they are) certain organisations think they can do well enough thank you by riding on the backs of others by promoting competence certificates they will.

Is it not just a ploy just to get people to say f $*k it. stalking has certainly changed over the past ten years are we not are own worst enemy when it comes to field sports. By pandering to these qualifications and rules.

Is it not because our certs are so precious to us ... so that if something comes up & your led to think .. oh I need this in order to hold onto what I have or gain more ?

So out of a “fear” we do it ?

We are by statistics the most law abiding sector of society going
