The best binoculars?

Hi Guy's,

Whilst surfing the net for information on binoculars I came across this document.

http://www.optik-knigge.de/PDF/Fernglas-ABC.pdf

I hope thie link works and is of interest, first two pages are in German and the last 2 in English but it expalins bionocular terminology, Twilight factor, effect of coated optics etc. is a easy reading and might help when choosing your next set of bins.

Jason.

Ps Just bought a pair of 15x56 Leica Geovid's and any brighter and I'll burn my retinea's optics are superb, they've relegated by Zeiss bins to the glove box.

Swarovski EL 8.5X42 are excellent, but the focussing is very low geared and mine have been back for repair – totally free. However an updated model with higher gearing and a better focusing mechanism will be in the shops in Sep. Optically they are said to be better as well and on a quick look on a hot day at the game fair, this appeared true. So now its saving the pennies!

I use Leica Geovid 10x42 - great clarity, tough and inbuilt rangefinder. They have really taken off down under, so has the price mind you!

You can't go wrong with the main 3 Leica, swaro, ziess. 8x is okay for most hunting, but mountain hunting you really need 10x

Have seen guys with 20x ziess, way to big and clumsy. Good clear 10X optics are all you need for spotting, then its over to the spotting scope for trophy sizing.

Best advice I can offer is pay the money and only cry once!

I have bought a pair of 8x42 Kahles after visiting the CLA gamefair and having a good look at all of the major manufacturers products. Their performance appears to be quite satisfactory and they have a clear image even in low light so I'm a happy bunny with them :-P ! Thanks to everyone who has offered views and advice I am very grateful.

Have recenetly received my FAC anf purchased a .243 so it is off to the range to zero and then hopefully find some stalking! :)
