THE PRETEND KEEPER

Yeah, I mentioned that to my fabrication lad he said when he had a minute he would make a couple with 3 trough drinkers on them but like the rest of them, I’ll believe it when I see it

I have them all over now - in this case serving a partridge pen and the birds outside too

Well!
That was a slog and a half of graft. But I got us over the line. Birds will have been in a week tomorrow and so far so good. Love doing this and a massive learning curve but proud of what I’ve achieved and their progress this week.
Couple of pics.
Too busy for photos up until now.
Cheers
T.

Well done we have put out 5 tonnes of wheat in the woods last few weekends. Ready for the birds to start moving. We don't normally do this but our wheat supplier is running low and didn't want to run out.

As you say a lot of hard work
But that is the bit we enjoy 👍

Well, it’s been a testing few weeks, my work has gone mental, my Mrs has been in hospital and my mam isn’t well, so in between work and looking after Mrs Stav and everything else I’ve still had the birds to sort out, luckily the young lad from the shoot has really helped me out, especially as we were swapping them from pellet and they have found their legs now after spending a month in or around the pens, but as I say “ they have to go somewhere “
I’ve had another couple of foxes around the farm so that’s a good thing, both adult vixens, I managed to get a ton of wheat bagged up yesterday which worked out well because I managed to catch the farmer in the yard and he put some wheat in a tipper trailer for me making it much easier for me to bag and by some miracle one of the members turned up to take it up to the shoot with me 930dc4eb-ac70-4ecd-912e-c54c8acd372b.webpIMG_3189.webpIMG_3190.webpIMG_3193.webpIMG_3153.webp

Birds are everywhere now, I’m feeding into the main drives a they are are getting off roost and going out into the drives for the day, I’ve had my mates young’un with me this morning and he’s a bit excited for the first day in 5 weeks time, if only the rest of them were as enthusiastic as himIMG_3255.webpIMG_3256.webp

Wow that really is child labour!! 😆😆

Good stuff mate, little (probably as tall as me these days) Hugo really looks the part. You've done a good job bringing him on 🫡

Out on the corvids this morning with a couple of lads from the shoot - ended a nice morning on close to 70 and a magpie !
Was foggy early on and they came out the fog into the decoys superbly
Not had a good crow session for years. They seem to know the game around here. Smarter than the average crow here!

Called in at the neighbours farm today - i feed that place too for a few wild pheasants and a couple of coveys of greys - although we dont shoot any game i like to see them and the song birds - anyway as i pulled up the farmer tabbed me to say the crows were on the drilling - so another early expedition coming in the morning with fingers crossed !

Do you use a mouth caller Smelly ? makes a real difference !

I use the Primos Power Crow .....absolutely lethal on jacks and hitty miss on carrions , they either pile in or just won't have it.

Yes I do have a caller, like Nick's.

Same here. Jackdaw call is spot on..anything else either sounds ok or like some sort of demented duck :)
For crows make the sound in your throat instead of just blowing 👍
